Cost to build up the G or sell and go another route
So I want to get my G to about 350rwhp give or take a little bit. Why? Because that would feed my need for speed for a few more years like my stock G has for the past 2 years
I don't want to just strap a charger/turbo on and blew my motor a few months later....so
People with experience with building motors cause I have none.
I dont want a bullet proof motor ready for 500+, I just want my motor to handle 350 like the stock motor can handle 240ish(to the wheels).
What would need upgrading? Rods, pistons? and about how much should I expect to pay to have that done.
I'm afraid I may end up getting something different if it is going to cost too much to get the G to 350rwhp reliably.
Anyway, any help on where to look for getting forged parts to handle 350 and costs would be greatly appreciated.

~7K for a Vortech with good tuning and monitoring tools (gauges) should be safe in the 350-400whp range.
LeMans350z had his Vortech for about 20+K miles. Knock on wood.
Dynoed at 420whp I think.

Just was wondering how much a moderate engine build up would cost to add to the 6-7k for a charger or ST.
I just didn't want to slap a charger/ST on without beefing the engine up a little as well.

Like I said, im not talking about a 450-500 hp at the wheels TT build up.

A good tune is VERY important. You should also have a wideband gauge to monitor your A/F ratio. At 350whp, you should (<--key word) be pretty safe. There are lots of guys who are running over 400whp on the stock block, and they have been running them at those power levels for awhile now. They will all tell you how important a good tune is.
Figure on an exhaust, guages, FI kit, installation, and tuning. A Vortech installed and tuned should run you about $7k. Figure another $1,500 or so for an exhaust and gauges. A Turbonetics ST may be around the same price, maybe just a little more.

Buy a 2nd fun car to really modify. It will be far more enjoyable, will probably be faster, and you can make more of weekend cruiser/bruiser. I plan on buying a 89-93 5.0 notchback for ~$5K and throw in about $2K in parts to get it to run upper 12s or so. I will also set it up for auto-x. For $10K, I could have very fun, clean, fast, and reliable 2nd car.
Adding boost to a G35 the right way will cost a small fortune. The "right way" means a piggy back ecu, lots of tuning, lots of quality gauges/monitoring systems, and strong fuel system. On top of the $5K for the turbo kit, you should budget about $3500 for the electronic gear and tuning. I hardly think it's worth it. Boosting NA cars is a pain and they often spend more time getting worked on at home/shop because of the common annoyances (inconsistent power delivery, funky idle, funky part-throttle operation, sputtering, etc).

I imagine i'll be selling the G within 1-2 years and opting for something that is either a)FI from factory b)more mod friendly!
Its so frustrating to see some cars be able to spend 1k and gain 50hp where the only way to gain 50hp from a G is with 5k of NA work or 7k for FI.

If you want to go S/C, there really is no need for an engine build with the relatively low numbers your are looking for. The general consensus here among individuals and businesses alike is that 350-400 rwhp is the upper safe limit for an entirely stock engine, assuming it is installed and tuned properly. You should be just fine with "strapping on a supercharger".
Turbo would probably be ok, too, but that temptation will always be there to crank up the psi beyond what the engine can handle.

Tell me about it. It's a shock to all of us who come to this platform from other, easily modifiable vehicles (L-98 Corvette for me) and see how much it costs to get any kind of substantial power increase from a VQ.

Just imagine, what if Nissan offered a "tuner" version of the engine, the VQ35T. It could come with forged internals, lower compression ratio, hotter cams, precision balancing, and all the other details necessary to make it FI ready. Since the factory has so many sources and efficiencies that we don't have, they could probably offer such an engine option for $5K-6K without a warranty (or maybe something like 30 days just to weed out infant mortality) and it would be very popular.
But, alas, there are political and strategic reasons behind the scenes that force every car model into an intended, confined slot and Nissan/Infiniti is not likely to rock the boat.

You can't go wrong, but it's 900,000ish YEN (around 7500.00). Total top engine rebuild, bring the compression ratio of the motor to 12.3:1! Best of all, it's factory! I don't think many people know about this, and I know a little japanese and can read it. The cover and intake look real sweet. good luck! this will keep you from doing countless hours of research, changing parts and tuning to find the right combo. From what I have read, many people just wasted their money. Better off doing it factory, doing it right!

If you want to be able to gain from 50whp with $1K, you'll have to look at forced induction cars. My reliable and cheap favorite would be the 03/04 Cobra. You can gain about 70whp with about $1,500 in parts. Spend about $4k on a revised blower/tuning/ECU stuff, and you're looking at 500whp. Another favorite of mine is the C5 Z06 which in my opinion is the deal of the century. My friends 03 Z06 went 12.1s@115mph with an intake and slicks. Add a cam ($2K installed) and long tube headers ($2K installed) and the car will be in the mid 11s@120mph. Even better is the car is completely docile around town and offers factory reliability.
