Just forged rods

Since the rods are the weakest link in the stock motor, would only upgrading the rods to some forged rods be enough to make a vortech build safe?

Assuming 410ish hp and 350ish torque is there anything else besides the rods that might not like the power increase?

I mean I wouldn't need pistons because I wouldn't be running enough boost to warrant dropping the compression ratio. What about crank or cylinder walls?

If you are going to take the time to tear apart your engine, then you might as well go all the way and build it up. Have you checked out the engines at IPP? They are known for their awesome work on 300zx's.

Seriously, if you're already going to be in there, you might as well do the pistons too. I don't see why you wouldn't.

It would be very short sighted to pay the labor to pull the engine and disassemble and then reassemble the engine without upgrading more than rods.

Keep in mind that the VQ35 was not designed for FI. No rebuild will be safe. What it would do (if done correctly) is reduce the risk of blowing the engine. And keep in mind that tuning is at least as big a factor as the engine components. A bad tune would blow any rebuilt engine.
