Need "switched" 12V underhood power source

I'm looking for an easily accessible "switched" 12V underhood power source. I would like to stay out of the IPDM E/R (Intelligent Power Distribution Module Engine Room) box if possible.

I want to use this "switched" 12V source as a control signal. The additional amp draw will be minimal.

What do you need power for? I just totally re-wired my car so I can help you if you give me some info.

While we are talking about wiring, I just ran a power cable to the trunk and found that extra post on the positive terminal just a little too convienent. What is it really there for? From what I can tell so far it loses power when you start the car and that is the only difference. It's ok to use, right?

redwillow,

The only switched 12V power source I've found so far is to the EVAP canister purge solenoid.

I may have to change my mind and go into the IPDM E/R. Would you offer the benefit of your experience?

Thanks in advance,

DaveO

sure, i'll have to check the manual schematics again and get back to you. I never actually went through with connecting anything to the IPDM.

looks like IPDM pin 11 or pin 6. You'll need to check it with a circuit tester or mulitmeter.

You can find em on the IPDM if you check the service manual on page PG-25.

....If not, the ignition relay is in the IPDM and my guess would be that might work also. Again, you'll have to check it with a meter or tester.
