Gas Gauge Sending Unit

I've searched and read a lot of the postings on the gas gauge issues we've had over the months, and wondered if anyone has had their gas tank sending unit replaced to solve the problem?
My gauge is not registering properly now. It's only slightly off but I can tell now it shows a slightly lower level now when full.
It used to show completely full and somewhat above full.
I'm going to try the battery disconnect procedure to see if it improves/solves the problem but I doubt it will.
I also did the gauge test as desctribed in our DIY section (my post) and found the g/gauge to be lower that were it should be, so there definitely is a problem altho at this stage not a big one.
If anyone has had any work done with their G related to this issue, please post and I'd be interested to know if anyone has had a new sending unit installed.
My ride is a Coupe, and I'm in Canada.

Gauge Tests
Thanks all

Re: Gas Gauge Sending Unit

i am having mine replaced but its on back order, my guage was acting up so they said they would replace it. I would fill up my tank and it wouldnt go all the way to full. So they replaced the send in the tank. Hope this was the problem.

I filled my Tank all of the way up, even topped it off. But when full, shows a little under the mark. It started to do this after I installed my grounding wires.

Re: Gas Gauge Sending Unit

As soon as I installed my 7 wire grounding kit from Gordon,
my fuel gague started acting consistent. Now I can estimate
with certanty how many miles are left by looking at the gague.
This is one of the things I like best about the grounding wires.

Re: Gas Gauge Sending Unit

have read on other forums about shell gas causing this problem.

if you use shell try something else and see if it corrects.

i use shell on occasion and have seen no problem, but i fill with petrocan the most (don't like it but 80% of the stations around here (brampton) seem to be petro.
On my other vehicles (Suzuki 1200) pc pings where almost any other premium or even mid grade is ping free...i suspect slightly lower octane or cheating, so in the bike at least i don't use petrocan.

Re: Gas Gauge Sending Unit

Mine’s 10.5k miles old, it’s been doing it since day one, it’s completely stock and I always use Chevron gas. I’ve just been ignoring the problem, but maybe I’ll ask about it the next time I bring my G in.

Re: Gas Gauge Sending Unit

My problem was the sael around the sender was bad. They replaced it and it was fixed...for a while but the prob is back I can't seem to get it all the way full just off the mark.

Re: Gas Gauge Sending Unit

gsedanman. I have a coupe, but I'm having the same issue as you. For the last 3 fillups it stopps a little below the full mark. Actually if your level with the gauges it's right on the full mark. I swear before It would go a little above it. I haven't been having the fill cut off anymore though, knock on wood.

When I fill up I just turn the key turned to on, without hitting the clutch so the engine isn't actually running. Since I have been doing this the gas fills up all the way (I think). I can also see the gas gauge move as it's filling.

My infiniti dealership will not recognize this being a problem with the car. They said it's probably something wrong with the gas stating pump or user error. No big deal, but it sure is annoying especially knowing it happens to other G owners and Infiniti won't admit it's something wrong with the car.
