why does my coupe feel sluggish?

Hey guys I just picked up a 04 5AT G35 Coupe a few weeks back and I'm loving it so far. Anyways just dropped off the car to the dealership to get some warranty work done on the car to get it all spankin new. So they gave me a loaner a 05 G sedan. The odd thing is it feels like the sedan has better pickup than my coupe. It just feels peppier off the line compared to my coupe where it feels like my coupe is just sluggish at times. Do you guys happen to possibly know what it may be and how I can maybe fix this? The dealership has been giving me the standard bs that they are different cars but I'm convinced that the coupe should at least compare to the sedan if not surpass it. Some of my buddy's are telling me to do an ecu reset but I'm not sure how. Your guy's help qould be most appreciated. Thanks!

I believe that the coupes are heavier than the sedans, which may account for some part of the difference.

There's very little difference in weight depending on the specific year and options.

Do a power down ECU reset and then drive it like you stole it.

Do the ECU reset as suggested above. Yes the coupe is marginally heavier but not significant enough to be measured in an acceleration test.

Most importantly remember butt dynos are notoriously inaccurate.

I'll give the ecu reset a try when I get her back Monday. Thanks for the tip guys. Is there a special way to do it or do I need to have the dealer do it for me?

Easiest way is to unplug the battery and let it sit overnight.

BTW, the 03 04 sedans were about 80lbs lighter than the 03 04 coupes. In 05 everything started getting heavier. In 05 the sedan AT got a jump in power from 260 to 280. The same as your 04 AT coupe.

as mentioned ECU reset and driving it hard should fix the problem.

After I gave my car to the dealership for some service bulletins, the car felt sluggish for me too. I think they put the wrong gas and beat my car. I did a reset and sort of helped, but my car doesn't feel the same anymore...Its be VIOLATED! =( hehe

The sluggishness you felt was mostly related to the fact that they reset your ECU during the work. Resetting the ECU doesn't result in more power, it results in less. A reset ECU will cause the engine to run rich hence with reduced power. It will take about 40 start/runs before the ECU has tailored the fuel and ignition timing maps for fuel grade, ambient conditions, and driving style. I have never owned a car that has felt better after an ECU reset. They've all felt doggy and sluggish after the reset. Even the intake induction noise was softer after the reset. Don't believe the hype.

Others have in the past. YOu just like to ignore them mr. clueless one.

ECU reset on this forun has proven to give the car some power and MPG back.
