considering going nitrous.. please help

hey guys, im looking to give my 04 g35 coupe 6spd a little kick for when i go to the tracks or mess around on the streets.. my G is a lease car that expires in exactly one year, so im looking for something thats more temporary and less expensive than a s/c or t/c.

a guy from altimas.net messaged me saying that hes selling a ZEX Wet Kit that hes uninstalling from his altima. it comes with a brand new bottle warmer, and a brand new zex pressure gauge. he says the o-ring for the valve assembly needs replacing but that shouldnt cost much. he wants to sell it for $450 shipped. is that a good deal?

now what i want to know is.. how much would the install at a shop be?

is it safe to use on an almost stock car.. he says it comes with with jets for 55, 65 or 75 shots.. if anything i'd use 75.. but what if i wanted to use a 100 shot? is that safe? would i need to change the spark plugs for that?

also, what kind of 1/4 mi improvements can i expect from my g? how does the whole tps control thing work.. do i just flip the switch on and the bottle sprays when it senses that im going full throttle? wouldnt that make me spin out at lower gears?

thanks a lot for any of these questions answered

I am not a mechanic or expert or anything but id say you putting NOS on a stock car would blow it up...IMO

If you wanna run Nitrous, I would do one step colder plugs plus some tunings..
which is not worth it for a lease car that is going to be returned in a year; unless if you wanna buy it after

i say go for it....nitrous when used properly will not blow the engine, go with a 75 shot to play it safe, if you go with 100 you should go with plugs 1 step colder, most people who have bad experiences with it are tools b/c they prob used it improperly......some kits have electrical components that lets the nitrous be used only during a certain window then shuts it off to keep you engine from getting damaged, only use nitrous at Wide Open Throttle and in the upper gears .

Just my .02

Got nitrous on my Z. If you take the proper precautions, your car will last. I run 150 shot on the Z (stock block). Putting down 366whp/438wtq. So roughly 440hp/530tq @ the crank. Pisses the single turbo, SC'd, and alot of TT guys off. puahahahaha.

Things you want to get along with the nitrous:
1 or 2 step colder plugs. I use 2 step colder just as a precaution. It takes a little more heat out of the cylinders and I have yet to get any knock. Z and Gs come stock with platinum plugs.... A VERY BIG NO NO for nitrous. I use NGK Iridium.

window switch - so the nitrous turns on and off without you having to think about it.

UTEC - if you plan on spraying more than 100 shot, you'll want to get the a/f ratio and timing in check.

You can safely run 100 shot on the Z/G without a tune. If you are worried about messing anything up (namely the clutch), stick with a 75 shot. I have run nitrous on numerous cars and have NEVER....YES...NEVER blown a motor.

I have had turbos are numerous cars as well....technology is a bit better now-a-days with import and management, so its not as big a problem, but the fact remains....turbos are headaches. leaking boost, tuning issues, burning oil, rebuilding turbos, wastegate problems, boost spikes, etc...the list goes on and I had all the issues anyone could ever have. If the car comes with turbo from the factory, that is another story. My Supra gave me very little problems.

Educate yourself on the use of nitrous. Most blown motors when using nitrous are 99% user error. As long as you follow the rules, your motor will last a long time.

I have been considering N2O too. 100 shot. I just put in an A/F tuner, so at least that part is taken care of.

75 shot is right on the money as far as A/F ratios are concerned. 100 runs a little rich...play with the fuel jets to get it right. I have a UTEC controlling my a/f and timing. SGP tuned it for me....if you have management, do 150 at the track and 125 on the street.

I thought about the 75, but I know I'll wish I went with the 100...
I think 100 is about as far as I want to push the stock motor without timing adjustments.

That is right....dont go over 100 if you cannot adjust timing. Friend of mine sprayed the hell out of his Z (100 shot) for a solid year with the stock clutch and now is turbo on the same stock block. Think he's pushing 500whp. The first time I get on a dyno with 150 shot jets in, my clutch goes bye bye. lol

who said nitrous ruins your motor? bauahahahaha

Almost forgot to mention...the deal on the Zex is not that great. Buy a new setup if anything...you dont want a nitrous product to fail....trust me.

I only buy NX...they are hands down, the best quality and put down what they say it puts down (i.e. 100 shot = 100hp). And on the Z/G, you'll notice you get ALOT more torque than what's advertised.

I gained 193 lbs of torque off of 150 shot.
