chain dragging noise

05 6mt 23,000 miles

when i start accelerating, between 2-3.5k rpm, i hear (what i could best describe as) "chain dragging noise"

not very loud, only audible with my radio way down and windows rolled down

anybody else experience the same noise?

i thought i read about this in this forum so i thought it was pretty common, but after searching cant find anyone complaining about this noise...i'm pretty sure its not the rear axle click cux its def. not a click

When I had that sound it turned out one of the bolts holding the knuckle in my rear suspension came loose and was rattling around. Exactly where is it coming from? Is it only when accelerating or at certain mph? Happens in all gears?

I think I've seen a few posts about this. I have the same prob. I took it in to the dealer, and they said they "couldn't reproduce the problem," as usual. Someone else said that it was normal, according to the manual? I forget what the term was for it. I just sorta gave up on it. I think others have described it as "ball bearings rattling around" and such if you wanna try to search for that.

I get it usually in 2nd and 3rd if I try to accelerate from 2kish RPMS to around 2.5k RPM.

It's engine pinging. do a search for "engine pinging"

get your hearing checked. All new 6MTs on the lot do it - I've personally verified this and so has my dealer. I'm not so sure it's pinging though, I think it could be transmission/clutch noise.

its most audible in 1st 2nd and 3rd but i'm sure it happens in all the gears. In higher gears, with the window down all the wind noise drounds out the chain dragging noise.

its def. not engine pinging, and engine pinging is not normal for any car

the sound is coming for the rear, thats all i can tell you and it only sounds when accelerating or just crusing i guess (only when the gas pedal is engaged)

I say go to the dealer and test drive another G and see if it does the same thing - I'm positive you'll hear it.

i'm pretty sure that not all g35 (6mts) make that noise....
the only reason i say this is because when my car was new it didn't make that noise...

it started making that noise around 10k and progressivly got louder

yeah i didn't notice it when i first got the car. .
i ususually hearit in first or second under any kind of acceleration around 4-5k rpms.

it sounds like its coming from the right below the seats or behind them.

Don't mean to revived an old thread back, but i start having this same chain/bearing noise recently.

I was thinking it was the timing chain. Although timing chains last a hect of a lot longer than rubber belts, the drawback of timing chain compared to a rubber timing belt, is the noise.

I just wanted to point out that the noise on mine is much more noticable when the A/C is on.

Just curious if anyone ever verified the cause of this noise, if it is indeed the timing chain or if it's a pulley or some other cause?
