Going back to stock...

Had a shop take out MREV2 + 5/16 spacer + Stillen intake on my 06 MREV.

The shop (not infiniti) gave it back to me with an idle problem. It will run rough and sometimes stall at red lights. I could tell it wasn't running perfectly on the road either. They said give the ECU time to learn again. I drove it about 40 miles that day and it didn't get any better. I couldn't get the pedal reset to work so I disco'd the negative term on the battery for a couple days and just plugged it back in.

ECU appears to be reset, its at 0 trip miles now and the SES light is off. However, its running real rough, ranging in RPM. I don't know if its adjusting itself or something isn't right from the parts removal.

Any suggestions? Not sure what to do. The MREV2 & spacer was the simplest version and the stillen CAI didn't look that complicated either. Could they have missed something or should I drive it and give it more time?

I need to get a somewhat normal running car to the dealership to work out my oil consumption issue.

check that all the hoses on the plenum are put back in correct order and nice and snug.
Check to make sure there is no gap between upper and lower plenum.
i think the hose that goes into the Gtube is something else to look at.

Did they put back the original bolts?

I did a quick check of what I could see without removing the plenum cover and nothing was out of order.

I did the reset and then drive it a couple miles and it still sounds the same. I think they missed something on the replacement.

I'm making a list for them...starting with suggestions here.

1. all hoses
2. leaks in plenum gasket
3. original bolts used?

I don't work on cars much so any advice is much appreciated. Its a huge PITA to get the car in the shop and I still need to take it to Infiniti for the oil consumption test.

Thanks guys!

You've got a vacuum leak. A simple vacuum test would confirm this. Chances are there is an issue with the torque on the plenum bolts. Most likely they used too much.

Will a simple remove and re-install correct fix the issue or is something fubar now since it may be too tight?

Thanks.

try a throttle body valve reset....its on last page of manual on MD website....says if they touch it may mess up calibration and cause rought idle.

I've experienced vacuum leak before on my MR2 Turbo. Its symptom was just like what you've said. Check all hoses and gaskets. Did you torque all the bolts properly? How about start the car and listen for leaking/sucking air closely from one spot to another.

Pour some (not dowse) really soapy water around the edge of the plenum and hoses. Bubbles will indicate a leak.

Bubbles will indicate pressure, a vacuum [lower than atmospheric pressure] will suck the soap water in.

Take a vacuum gauge and attach it to vacuum port on the front passenger side of the plenum (has a black rubber nipple). If the vacuum is not at least a steady 18Hg at a full warm idle, you've got a vacuum leak. Most VQs I've tested show vacuum at 20 Hg. My G35 shows a rock steady 20.5 Hg.

Take it to the dealer unless they already knew you made mods to the car. They will be able to run a vacuum leak test.
