Tach needle acting up

Hi,

It seams like when I drive and gradually apply throttle the needle is almost at 3rpm vs what I think used to be at around 2rpm. When I let go of throttle sometimes it does not even drop and just stays there. Other times it would drop to about 800rpm but then quickly jump to roughly 1300rpm.

It all started about few days ago. There are no other signs besides engine working at higher RPM. Just does not seem right. I know it is damn cold in Chicago but do not think it should effect the car that much. Using the same gas station as always, Shell, and putting 93.

Car has about 42k on it. 03 G coupe

Thank you for your help.
