ebay has some of the craziest shiznit
anyone know what this is? says it does the same as a chip, going for $3.99. that would be the best upgrade if it was only 4bux and adds 20+ hp. He trys to compare it to a chip costing 400+ dollars.

LOL anyone know what kind of resistor this is? I read the guys comments. People were complaing about being charged for 4 bux for shipping and reciving a .50 cent radio shack resistor in an envelope.

Sounds bogus to me. First, I'd be skiddish just because they didn't include a photo.
It "[lets your] engine take in cooler air." Right. Like a chip is going to affect the air temperature coming in the intake. Even a real cold-air intake doesn't give you 20HP. Plus, I'd imagine Infiniti's engineers already have the timing on this engine about as advanced as it can get, which is why they recommend premium fuel.
And best of all... from the FAQ section... "It will work on ALL models (excluding turbos) from 1990 to present." I rest my case.

I've seen something like this earlier...for other cars.
All it does is change the resistance coming out of the MAF sensor, telling the ECU that the air is colder, so it can add more fuel and timing.

Re: ebay has some of the craziest shiznit
is it really optimal to trick your ecu that the air temperature of its environment is colder than it really is?

This piece of crap has been floating around ebay for a while. At best nothing will happen. At worst you will f'up your cats and foul plugs etc. Changing your mixture, which is what this is really trying to do, requires calibration throughout the rpm range. Its not linear. For the SHO we use an lpm when we change the MAF. It calibrates the fuel air managment. To do it properly you need to get A/F data from a wide band O2 sensor to adjust the calibration factors every 100 rpm. This way you get a flat A/F ratio curve at 14 or so. It took 3 tries on the dyno to get it right. This thing will likely send your A/F ratio all over the place if it works at all. Even if they could prove a peak hp gain if it doesnt run as well thru the rest of the RPM range...guess what...it will be slower.
Actually I'm sorry for being so cynical...If you try this with the Tornado it really works well. But I think I'd rather upgrade my muffler bearings for a real Hp increase.
Edited by smcallis on 01/29/03 01:18 PM.

LOL, no try that with the eram. Then for an extra 10 hp put a banana in your tail pipe. Not to mention stickers add 5hp each. Then we have the super fin push cart spoiler that can add up to 100hp.

Don't forget, aftermarket body kits are faster if you leave them primer gray.

i thought you get greater horse power right before the body kit is even installed and you got a car missing side sille, rear and front underbody spoilers and bumpers.. i think it has something to do with less wind resistance and a much lighter car.
