Lower Temp Readings due to coolant

hey guys. I had a question that's been on my mind for the longest time. My previous Japanese car, just like my Infiniti, always had the temp gauge ending up at just below the 1/2 way point. But after I brought in my car for a 60k tune up, the temp gauge is now consistently on 1/4 mark instead if not driven hard. And now that winter is approaching, something happened that I've never seen happen before, I was driving as normal, the temp gauge was at 1/4, then I drove it hard for about 15 mintues through traffic, the temp gauge went up to 1/2, then after cruisnig for 15 minutes, remarkably, the temp gauge had gone back to 1/4. Keep in mind I'm in SoCal, so it's not realyl that cold outside, maybe 40 degrees.
I can't figure out what my mechanic did to my car to allow my car to so effectively cool itself off. The only thing I can think of is the coolant. However, I'm not as much of a car expert as some of forum readers. And was wondering if you could verify or invalidate this idea. If it's not the coolant, what do you think her could haev done during the 60k tune up that would allow my car to effectively cool itself better than it's ever done so before 60k.
The main reason I'm asking this is becuase I would love to duplicate this on my G35. It's a pretty hot running engine. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Airsplat, I've re-opened the thread for you, deleted all the other posts and left your original post so that you may restart the thread if you wish.

If I might answer your question with my opinion:

To my mind either the temp gauge/associated wiring is faulty and needs callibration/repair, or
the coolant thermostat has somehow become stuck in the open position thereby not allowing the coolant the warm properly.

If you seem to be getting the right amount of heat from your vents when choosing to heat, then I suggest that the issue is with a faulty gauge/wiring.

Have the dealer check it out for you. If it is an actual temperature problem, this could have serious, long term ramifications if left unchecked.

G/L and let us know how this turns out.

Colin.
