I must admit Im curious to try Amsoil and probably will if I find it at a resonable price. I agree with Bocatrip, as long as u change ur oil often enough your precious engine will last at least 150000 miles and thats more than enough for me. The real reason I use synthetic is because our VQ engines burn oil and thats a fact. I have used conventional oils and synthetic brands and have realized that synthetic oils burn less. I use about 1/2 a quart of synthetic oil between my 4k mile changes and I used to use at least 1 quart with conventional oil. Plus, I live in new york and I know its a fact that synthetic oils protect better in the winter. I also stick to OEM filters because I know that they will never let me down and they are backed by the same idiots who made my car!

G35ANTSA, the point of my post was to defend Mobil 1, not cut it down. Mobil 1 is a fine product.

If you are interested in trying AMSOIL, I offer wholesale prices as low as $4.46 qt. Only better deal is free!

Since you have a lot of experience with Amsoil, can you explain the main differences between the XL 5w-30, Normal Synthetic 5W-30, and series 2000 0W-30? Other than the recommended drain intervals, is there a significant difference between the formulation and protection for say a 7.5k drain interval?

Probably the rule that you don't set up shop without paying rent (sponsor this site).

He spammed like every thread. The deal with mobil 1 is still not completely solved. Do alot of reading on bobistheoilguy for a better idea of how mobil1 actually stacks up. Customer service hardly is a reliable source, and probably couldn't even explain the difference between a group3 and group 4 base oil. The facts are that mobil1 changed their formulation when they introduced "synpower" which is different than the previous formulation. Alot of people's UOA's changed significantly after the switch, which suggests a change to group 3 base stocks. The viscosity data suggests the same for 5/10w oils, with 0w oils appearing to remain PAO based. Mobil1 won't officially address the issue of base stocks so everything is still speculation, but the evidence points to group 3 base oils being used rather than PAO based for the 5w-30's and 10w-30's.

I switched to the M1 TurboDiesel ($5.75/qt) after they messed around with the recipe of the gas oils. Word on BITOG is that they left the TD oils alone (still PAO) as the operating environment was so severe. Plus the TBN is supposedly 14+ so its an extended service lube for sure. I'm going to do an analysis at 10K coming up to see if I can go 15 and possibly 20K since I have a remote oil filter with 4X the OEM area. Car's out of warrantee, so less time under the thing to go do other stuff.

HiTechOil co probably shouldn't have been banned. Just warned and then offered the option of becoming a sponser. Would be nice to have an Amsoil dealer on there. WE have one on maxima.org. Talkinghorse.

Then again, if we had a fluids/lubricants section like I suggested a month ago, he wouldn't have HAD to spam every forum right?

ballisticus, looking forward to reading your analysis report!

I think that even if Mobil 1 is now just a glorified group III oil, it's still better than most oils out there. And it's relatively cheap at walmart.

I would go for GC, but given its cost and the fact that I change my oil and filter (both mobil 1) every 4K miles, I'll just stick with Mobil 1.

penzoil platinum is a better group 3 synthetic at a cheaper pricepoint, might want to look into that as well.

Cool. I might see if Walmart has these in the 5qt jugs. The mobil has done well for me though. At least in terms of oil consumption. I ave about 1qt during a 3-4k mile change

I also burn about 1qt/4K miles, but that's when I use Mobil 1 10W-30. I recently switched to the Truck & SUV 5W-30, which is thicker. I have another 400 miles to go before my oil change, so hopefully it'll mean less oil burned.

What kind of oil do you think they put in the G35 when they ship them to the dealerships?
10w40 Dino oil... (show by used oil analysis)

Hi Chiapet. Apparently there was a misunderstanding by someone and the situation has now been thankfully corrected.
