06 sedan midpipe installed on 03 sedan
After a Borla TD and a coupe midpipe, I finally found the exhaust sound I was looking for, the 06 sedan midpipe The Borla was way too loud, had lots of drone, and increased NVH a bit. The coupe midpipe had a decent tone, but it too had a bit of drone (nothing horrible), but it seemed to cause a slight vibration under part throttle load. I attributed this minor vibration to the lack of a passenger side rear hanger on the coupe midpipe. I don't hate drone, but the drone can't cause vibration and it needs to sound "right". Both of these systems were removed from my car within a week.
Last week I bought a 2006 midpipe from a fellow member and I installed this evening. The sound is perfect. It's actually slightly louder than the 05 loaners I've had and my guess is that the additional noise is from the slightly shorter (~2") muffler can used on the 03/04 cars. The 06 midpipe has a perfect part throttle growl and drone. It sounds throaty and deep. I would have to say the noise increase is about 20% louder than the OEM midpipe. Better yet, no vibrations. I will say the sound is nothing like the coupe or 350Z, but I wasn't expecting that sound because the sedans don't use a cross-flow muffler. The sound is very close to an E46 M3. It's not near as frantic sounding at WOT, but under normal driving, the sounds are very close. At WOT, the sedan pipe has a much nicer sound than the OEM midpipe.
