mobil 1 question

I dont drive my car that much(a/b 6k a year), and I havent had an oil change for about 7 months now, but I have not reach 3, 500 miles since my last oil change. Would my oil quality be compromised due to the abnormally long time between oil changes? btw i use mobil 1 oil and filter.

Doubtful (can't real tell w/o oil analysis), but change it and get rid of Mobile 1.

There's another post on here that states that Mobile 1 is not fully synthetic anymore..
One recommendation was Castrol GTX synthetic - "european version" (or somthing like that) on the bottle. They carry it at Auto Zone.
There was other lesser known oils that were mentioned as fully synthetic too.

If it's fully synthetic, I'd go up to a year before considering changing based on time and not mileage (my 2 cents).

Time vs Mileage...........!

I'm not using Mobil 1 anymore due to what I've read about them changing
their formula. Switched to RedLine full synthentic 10/30 but still use K&N
filters. I believe time can be an enemy to your engine just like not changing
your oil offen enough due to mileage. Change your oil and find another
synthentic like I did. If nothing else it will give you piece of mind and be good
for you engine......

Mobile 1 is no longer full synthetic.

Castrol 0W-30 (European Formula) is full synthetic as is Penzoil Platinum Synthetic, Amsoil's synthetics, and Rotella synthetic. All great oils.

German Castrol shows good oil analysis in the G35, All cars prefer different oils. Not one perfect for every car.

Visit bobistheoilguy.com. Lots of good info.

That is too long to go between changes IMO.

What goes wrong with synthetic oil over time? As long as the filter is keeping crap out of it wouldn't this oil keep it's lubricating qualities much longer. I mean it doesn't break down like regular oil just due to time... some people test their oil before changing and it seems they go quite a while.

That being said, it's not a whole lot of money so twice a year wouldn't be bad I guess.

I was told by a person of knowledge on bobistheoilguy that Rotella 5W-30 synthetic has had some very good oil analysis in the G35 as has the Amsoil 5W-30 synthetic. The Amsoil Series 2000 is a very good highway oil.

Filter is really the key with any oil. Ditch the oem and get Mobile 1, Wix, Pure One, NAPA Gold, or Amsoil. Here's a post that tells who make what filter:

I really encourage everyone to visit the above site and read. Those guys are really oil nurds, in a good sense. You'll learn a lot.

Unless you guys are on boost or try for long change intervals, the fact that Mobil 1 is no longer synthetic makes not one bit of difference in performance.

As for the gentleman asking if 7 months is too long, well only an oil analysis can answer that. But it certainly wouldn't hurt to change it once/twice year

I heard the OEM oil filter is only good for 3 months or 3k? or was that 5k? But in either case, if you use synthetic, is it better to use an aftermarket oil filter, like amsoil or something else?
