87 octane

How bad is it?? I just got back from running errands with my wife and I let her drive while I rode shotgun. We went to fill up at the pump and she decided to fill it up while I sat in the car. She began fueling and something told me to make sure everything was good. I stepped out the car and seen 15 bucks already pumped. almost 3 gallons, of 87 octane!! How bad is this going to be?

your car is going to explode...

you'll be fine. it's not going to kill you or the car. the manual specifically says it's okay to fill up on low octance - if high octane is not available. keep in mind it also says to fill back up with high octane asap.

Is your car boosted?..

If not.. you should be ok.. Just fill the rest of the car with alot of 93/94

you'll be absolutely fine, assuming no major mods.

You should be okay with a bit of 87. It's when you use full throttle and/or the weather is hot that the ECU will likely back down on the timing, so your gas mileage may suffer as will your performance. The only way to tell is to hook up to a scanner and see your timing in real-time.

The other issue is when your car gets older, and pre-ignition becomes a more prevalent problem. If the knock sensors don't work at optimum, you can cause potential problems and damage your engine.

Your motor is toast from the low octane gas. Send it to me and I will send you mine (see my disappearing oil post).
