Engine Building

I'm looking to build my engine in the pretty distant future,

I'm just making a punch list of what I need / want and in what order I'm doing it.

Which one of these would best suit my needs, what could I expect for labor chargers and is there anything else I would need to buy to make it work...

Looking for a good 500rwhp, 550 max.

Thanks =)

No,

I'm getting a Greddy Twin Turbo installed in a week or two. I want to not expload at 500/550 daily driver.

awww - thats cool....like evryother turbo / fi build..go low compression and depend heavily on your turbos / turbo setup for max gains!

my350z has a sticky on this..."how to do twins right the first time" other than that I'd say between 5 and 10k...Labor, upgraded fuel system, injectors, utec or other, pistons, rods, tuning, clutch, bearings, head and main studs, etc. to name a few for you! GL

You are way better off doing the build and TT kit at the same time. It will cost you an extra ~$1k+ to do it later.

Right that gave me a list of how to build an extra shortblock,

This seems easier, I just buy it, and pay the labor?

I know I'm doing this wrong, but its how I want to do it.

I read the entire sticky.

I'm not not familar with what really needs to be done to prevent detonation.

Lower compression which relates to less timing being pulled will lead to less chance of detonation.
I would build the motor and get the TT kit installed at the same time, it will save you a headache later on....trust me

Easiest way is to take it to PF and have them keep your car for a while so that they can build and tune everything for you. Probably for the least amount of money and headaches this way too.

Otherwise, for that power, I'd go find some eagle rods, 8.5-9/20 over pistons, ARP hardware, though some will argue cometic headgaskets, rod and main bearing dependant on how much you machine off the crank, revup oil pump, new water pump, and a new gasket overhaul set. I think that is the bear minimum when you are taking apart the motor.

One thing to remember is that chances are, if you are going to have an install and tune done at a shop, they will be able to source your parts for cheaper so in the end, since you're not doing the install yourself, go with a shop and don't waste your time buying parts. Being boosted is fun!

A prebuild like what, what do you mean? Like I told you, either get it all done at once so you'll be better off than in the long run, or go with that link I sent you in the PM. If you do it small, then add stuff later, and etc etc..... you're going to double if not more your costs that you have planned.

Yes.... the more expensive build you see on that page, the cheaper the install basically.... but there are definately better options/ways to go out there...

no matter what your on the right track...ask as many questions as possible, dont over look anything and find a proven installer/tuner. Save LOTS of money.
