Oil recommendation ....

I have an 03' 6MT coupe w/ 63k miles. I am not sure what the previous owner used so I am looking for some advise. I have always used Castrol GTX 10X30 is everything I have driven for the last 24 years and never had an issue. However this is the first "performance" car I have ever owned. I noticed that most folks are using full synthetic ..... is Castrol Syntec or Syntec Blend any good for our engines?

Thanks for the input!!

The manufacturer suggest 5w30, mineral based oil. Most people use Mobil1, Amsoil,Royal purple and Castrol. I have been using Mobil 1 since the 3000 mile mark and it's been great, no issues. I currently have 47k miles on my G. The dealer actually encouraged synthetic, but also recommended changing intervals at 4500 miles as opposed to 3500. I guess it really depends on the filter u use as to how long u go between intervals. Some G owners go 7000 miles between intervals. I wouldnt suggest going 7000 miles with the OEM filter.

^^^

For the money that is one of the best oils you can get. Otherwise spend a little more on Amsoil or Motul

^^^ Agree.
I'm currently running Syntec 5-30. Switching to Amsoil 5-30 next service. Amsoil makes a Euro 0-40, but idk how our VQ's will like.
Can't find German 0-30 my way unless I pay BMW dealer $$.
Saw Royal Purple at $10/qt... I'll pass on that. Amsoil a lot cheaper per qt.
I do 5K intervals with Synth.

Some WalMart stores carry Royal Purple for around $6.70-6.80 per QT. If you change your oil at the recommenced 3750 mi. intervals, I wouldn't go for the high dollar synthetics. With the car having 63K miles and you don't know what oil has been used, I would go with one of the less expensive synthetics like Castrtol Syntec or Mobil 1, they are around $23 for the 5 QT jug.

German Castrol is the ****. Use it in my G and love it. Motor actually runs smoother at higher RPM's than it used to with Mobil 1(GC is a thicker oil despite it's lower viscocity rating). Unfortunately, they stopped selling it at Auto Zone and I can't seem to find anwhere else that sells it now... so after I finish up my last 6 or 7 bottles worth of backstocked GC oil that I have sitting here at my house, I'm going to have to switch to something else.

Does anyone know of anyplace online or anything or any other chain stores that sell GC? Like I said earlier, the entire Autozone chain no longer carries it. Wal-Mart also does not sell it, and I've yet to see it in Pep Boys.

the autozone by my house has German Castrol. I just changed my oil like 100 miles ago.

does anyone think that this 0w30 oil will affect warranty with infiniti since they are picky about shyt.

Watch your oil level when using GC. Some, and not all by any means, seem to consume more GC than other brands. It's great full synthetic oil, but every car seems to prefer a certain oil. I'm on Amsoil Series 2000, 0w-30, right now but may switch to Amsoil 5w-30 next time around. Really runs easy an smooth on the 0w-30 though.

I've been buying all the GC I can find, even if for other cars. Make sure it says European Formula on the front. There is some old 0w-30 still around that was made in USA.

If I didn't want Amsoil, Penzoil Platinum synthetic is very good full synthetic. Price is real low right now as they are trying to gain market share from Mobil.

I have also been using Royal Purple for several years. Always performed well for me and my cars.
