Need Help! Second New Tranny, need advice for flywheel and clutch
Well I posted this at the G-Spot yesterday and got no response yet, so I'll do it here w/ some new details:
Well here goes again. I just had my tranny swapped at 40K miles and now I need one again at 50K. The replacement never felt right and was very hard to shift. It also whined A LOT, especially when your foot was off the clutch in neutral. Since I first had the car I always noticed that my engine was quite a bit rougher than the auto loaners I always got. I've heard that this is due to the earlier stock flywheel designs which have since been redesigned.
Since the tranny is going to be down again I've decided to swap the flywheel while it's down. Why not, maybe I'll get rid of the rough vibrations and gain some power while at it. The dealer wants to charge $350 to swap the flywheel while the tranny's down, which I think is a bit steep, but I have no other choice.
So what do you think. I have no clue what to get. I'm a VERY MILD modder at best and I don't want excessive chatter and such. A performance shop that deals with Porsches, BMW's, Benzes and Ferrari's that I go to for other stuff has suggested Fidanza. Theirs is $699.99 (msrp) which I can probably get a bit cheaper. They also told me to check UR since they are local for me (LI, NY). I thought these were a bit cheaper, any suggestions? What works best in our cars?
Ok, so here's another update: after speaking to the distributor that carries this flywheel he suggested perhaps upgrading to a Clutchmaster Stage1 clutch for better/smoother driveability. Since I've had this car I always had trouble getting a smooth start and I've driven plenty of mt's. He mentioned that the new clutch is spring loaded? and that it would make it smoother to engage. His price for the flywheel is $465 and $323 for the clutch. So my hopes are maybe I can make the car drive better for a moderate investment.
I spoke the performance shop again thay said to forget the clutch because Nissan actually uses a pretty good clutch, plus my clutch has only 10k miles since I had it changed last time the tranny went down. He also mentioned that the machining and the hardware on the Fidanza are top notch and he thought it was better than the UR when he compared the two. The distributor that carries many brands also agrees re: the Fidanza.
Any thoughts?
