HELLLLLLP!!!!!!!! Check engine light!!!!!!!! OCTANE BOOSTER? MODS?

Ok I have a 2003 G35 Coupe with 34000 miles on it.

about 2,500 miles ago i put megan resonated test pipes on it, and about 400-500 miles ago i put a JWT popcharger filter and Z-Tube on. About 200 miles ago i put a UR Underdriven lightweight crank pulley on it. And today we wired in 3 gauges, a Volt, Wideband (not hooked up to read yet just lights up), and oil pressure (same thing not wired to read just lights).

Well after about 40 miles later i went in and turned off car and got starbucks, come out 20 mins later, and there was a check engine light on. The guages couldnt have done it, and i checked fuel cap, then unpluged battery and plugged back in and it came on instantly again!

Can anyone please tell me what it might be? Im hoping its nothing major, then engine sounds fine and all! OH YEA a lil bit ago i put a full tank of chevron 92 premium gas in and tried a bottle of lucas octane booster which says it raises octane up to 7 points, just to see if I could feel a differance, which i really couldnt. And now about 50 miles till empty is when the light came on! could it be that octane booster maybe???

if you search you would find that test pipes need nonfoulers to not set off the 02 sensors...

Use a scanner and read the code. Without knowing the code, its all just best guesses on what the cause is and what will fix it.

my codes is a P0031, the reader says H02S Heater Control Circuit Low (Bank 1, Sensor 1)

and then on the tiny blinky lights on top of the code reader the CAT light, EVA light, and 02s light are blinking.

You can try the nonfoulers, but I'm pretty sure bank 1 / sensor 1 is the 02 sensor that is on your exhaust manifold, not the cats. The 02 sensors on the cats are bank 2, the A/F sensors on the manifold are bank 1 IIRC.

you are correct, bank 1 sensor 1 is the left side 02 sensor before the cat, which would be on the manifold.

Be very careful of so called octane boosters as many contain organo metallics like Ferrocene or Manganese compounds which can create depoits on spark plugs and pistons and foul O2 sensors if you use too much or too often.

As to the code either the O2 sensor has failed or the wiring to it..........internal heater to warm it up on cold start.

Warranty except for your Felony Violation [Clean Air Act] by removing cats and substituting test pipe.

You've got several issues going on here.

First, P0031 means that there is an issue with the A/F sensor that is on your left side manifold. As Q45tech noted, either your wiring is damaged, or the sensor has failed. Its possible the octane booster damaged it, or it was inadvertently damaged during an install or it just failed, which is rare, but does happen.

Second, you are running test pipes, which means no catalytic converter. You would've gotten a CEL eventually because the rear 02 sensors would've tripped codes and warning lights about your exhaust. You need non-foulers in the test pipe to eliminate that. This will not fix your P0031 code.

Third, you're going to have to take it to a dealer if you want that front 02 sensor fixed under warranty. MSRP on those sensors is about $140 each. Which means take off your test pipes and pop charger, so you don't get any flack about the mods possibly being the cause.

Fourth, stop making titles like chicken little and the sky is falling. Its all fixable.

my car is a 2003 with 35000 miles, it went out of warranty 3 months ago. they wont even fix the rear axle clicking when i called into them!!!

so its most likely i just need a new sensor? what exactly is the sensor called that i need? I did the nonfouler mod to the test pipes so thats fine but i really dont wanna take um off and switch um specially if im outta warranty anyways.

I have a wideband air/fuel that im getting wired in saturday. it has some sort of sensor with it, that wont replace my bad one will it?
