5at w/motordyne spacer vs. stock 6mt

is this a dumb question or is this just a repost?

but, my question is.... if you put a 2006 5at G35 coupe with a motordyne spacer maybe 5/16 or 1/2 VS. a 2006 6mt coupe stock which would be the victor?

they're the same car, with or without the spacer, the victor goes to the better driver. If they both know how to launch and the 5AT driver knows his shift points and the 6MT driver doesnt miss a gear then it'll be neck and neck the entire time. So its a driver's race.

no, the gains are minimal with the 1/2" over the 5/16", it just gives you a little more up top.

Not really.

True, the performance is minimal. But the fact is, the auto's have an FD of 3.3, which does slightly affect its performance as compared to the 6MT. That's why I have always noticed the auto's trap about 1 to 2 mph less than the 6MT.

But yes, its still completely a drivers race. The whole key to the winner is within its launch. And in the 6MT's case, shifting properly.

The only difference between the 6MT and Auto is within its gearing, although it isnt anything too significant.

.

No. A properly well driven 6mt will be faster than a 5AT. A 5AT w/Spacer is still slower than a well-driven 6mt. The fastest stock 6mt has done 13.9x in the 1/4th, and the fast stock 5at is around a 14.2x in the 1/4th.

when i was stock i never lost to a 6mt while manual shifting my 5at. the tiptronic makes a diff if you know how to use it properly. hmm idk maybe i never ran in to a good 6mt driver. how ever i did lose to a 6mt 350z. his 3rd gear was better than mine, but 1st and 2nd are dead even with the z.

If you were to race me in my 6mt then you would win in your 5at. haha I have been shifting sloppy lately. I would almost always think an auto would beat a manual in a race with your “average Joe” driving. If you race cars and can shift with a science then that’s a different story

if the spacers don't make a difference, then why do people get it?

They do. Its just that MREV 6mt > 6mt > 5AT w/spacer > 5AT

I raced my friend's 350z (JTW pop/ztube, mrev2, 5/16 MD spacer, Stillen TD, Stillen HFC, Technosquare reflash, tanabe springs, sways) the other night at a roll from 10mph. We started in first gear and by the end of second, I was already 3/4 car length ahead of him, but when we both hit 3rd gear, he started to gain on me pretty quickly. We already hit 90 so I stopped. I'm pretty sure if we went up to 4th gear, we woulda been pretty even.

I noticed that 9 out of every 10 manual cars I race, every time they shift, I gain at least 1/4 car length. So if we start in first, by third I have at least 3/4 car length on him, if not more.

FYI, Technosquare's reflash is awesome. The basic reflash opens up your throttle to a full 100% (factory is 80% at WOT) AND my redline is at 7100 rpms. I just shift at 7k rpms because there is a 100 rpm lag on the manumatic.
