We started in first gear and by the end of second, I was already 3/4 car length ahead of him, but when we both hit 3rd gear, he started to gain on me pretty quickly. We already hit 90 so I stopped. I'm pretty sure if we went up to 4th gear, we woulda been pretty even.

I noticed that 9 out of every 10 manual cars I race, every time they shift, I gain at least 1/4 car length. So if we start in first, by third I have at least 3/4 car length on him, if not more.

FYI, Technosquare's reflash is awesome. The basic reflash opens up your throttle to a full 100% (factory is 80% at WOT) AND my redline is at 7100 rpms. I just shift at 7k rpms because there is a 100 rpm lag on the manumatic.

did you get a techno reflash as well? if so where do you get this done?

so your saying pretty much its even out the race with your 5at w/ a 5/16 MD spacer over his 6mt 350z?

was that at the same track same day?... track conditions very widely - unless they were racing each other, the numbers are not viable for comparison

But yes, its still completely a drivers race. The whole key to the winner is within its launch. And in the 6MT's case, shifting properly.

The only difference between the 6MT and Auto is within its gearing, although it isnt anything too significant.

.
It's really not the gearing because for the 5AT, the gearing is just about ideal for the 1/4 mile. Don't forget that the 5AT also has a torque converter which greatly increases torque on the launch and allows the driver to preload the drivetrain prior to launch. This is why the 5ATs, when properly driven, can put a decent hole shot on 9 out of 10 6MT drivers. What hurts the 5AT is the parasitic energy loss of the operating the fluid filled torque converter. Overall, the torque converter sucks out a solid 10whp/wtq over the 6MT. That's why at speeds above 60mph, the 6MT will start to slowly walk the 5AT.

Damn, 1/4 lenght after each shift? He needs practice! I definately never lost that much after each shift, even during my first time drag racing. I really feel much more confortable about how quickly I shift today as compared to 3 months ago biggthumpup: . My shifts are quick, but my 3rd gear still gets to me sometimes

Glad to see your loving the TS reflash. Honestly, my mind has changed over to the new UpRev Osiris flash which seems to damn good! TS is definately a well proven flash though.

You should go to the track anytime soon as see what the reflash has done to your car performance wise.

sedans can beat coupes... with the right mods you'll do just fine with your AT sedan (others of us do)...
