06' M5 Dyno HP
06' M5 Dyno HP
So I was at my mechanics shop today and to my suprise was an 06' M5 backing onto the dyno. Now before anyone gets all crazy wanting to see a vid or dyno graph I have none to give.
I was just stopping in to check on my cars progress. This one was stock except an exhaust and wheels. WOW, did that thing sound wicked!!! V10, SMG, exhaust, an making a pull on a MD dyno. It ran a 381hp in 3rd and 387hp in 4th and a consistant 390tq. I have to say it was a little suprising to not see it break the 400 mark. Now afterwards I was one of the few to get a ride,(obviously) and ride shot gun.
It was breathtaking! The thing pulls HARD...and seems to pull harder and faster as you run through the gears which is seamless. One thing I did'nt about was the seats...they have moveable sides that "cup" you in depending which way you turn. I've been in an SMG M3 and this thing makes it seem like a Focus. I want one!!!

It's the Dyno
The Mustang Dyno is usually lower than a DynoJet. My turbocharged IS300 put 474 whp on a DynoJet and made 405 the same week on a Mustang.

Im not a 100% sure but before they made the first run the owner was asked to set up the cars presets for maxium power. I know the trans has like 4 or 5 different options to choose from as well. I dunno a n/a car running 400 hp sure does feel pretty damn fast.

It is a 7 speed - and the gear ratios are real short and tight until you hit 6th...it may not actually be all that far off.
I've beaten several of them...even when on the 3.12 pulley at about ~400WHP...
Rick
38X whp and 4000lb is not equal to 12.5 1/4 mile at traps over 110 mph. U should beat them, because u wiegh about 400-500 lb less. I am sure it was a very close race when u were packing 400 whp.
Again there is something wrong either with the dyno or the car. There is more than 20% loss on that 7speed SMG tranny according to the OP. Keep in mind that BMW has always underrated their HP and TQ numbers.

I just did a little google (2006 M5 dyno) and came up with the same #'s. This is interesting since BMW is claiming so much power.

It's got to be in the gearing on these cars and the TQ the motor puts out to keep it moving. Look at the ratios..one would think the car would be a pig from 2nd on. They sure do feel faster than the dyno rating - but TQ is what will get you that. A 12:1 motor will give you that power.
