engine vibration/shake

My car is an 06 G35 5AT. Occassionally while driving the entire car starts to shake/vibrate with the shifter seeming to have a life of it's own (lol). While this is happening the car "seems" to loose a little power. If I punch the gas the problem resolves immediately. This has been going on for a year but it is so sporadic that it is no use taking it to the dealership if I can't reproduce the problem while I'm there. Any suggestions as to what is wrong?

same happens here (I have an 05 6MT). I always just play it off as normal engine vibration...I hope I'm right!

Any CEL lights? Hard starting? Do you all have CAI's and which ones? What other mods? Is you A/C on when this happens?

This is NOT normal, though likely nothing to worry about either, if it only happens like once a month.

it happens to me to i own a 06 5at and it happens when i go over bumps or hit pot holes. It starts to drive u crazy. i talked to a tech and he said the trans in on harder bushings so when you hit a bump it moves more than other cars. when doese yours start to vibrate?

When was the last time you cleaned/replaced your air filter?

i just bought the car in may of this year. My air filter should be fine. It has something to do with the trans i think.

Wheel alignment or engine mounts could also be a factor.

I am getting the same problem. It is happenning to me at 50-60 Km/hour or 1500 RPMs, my shifter **** on my 06 5AT vibrates a bunch for like 5 seconds and stops.

Yeah, 60 Km/h is about when mine starts and usually once I've settled into a steady speed. I doubt if anything on the road sets it off. Since it happens so sporadically, wheel alignment or balancing shouldn't be a factor. I've never timed the duration of these episodes but a blip of the gas pedal resolves it. I can go for weeks w/o this problem and then it may happen 3X in two days. Could it be a puter glitch?

looks at these threads........

If your problem matches what was discussed in this thread, I know the solution to your problem, I had the same issue and it has been fixed.

I'm guessing it's the same problem - the telltale sign is the shifter shaking around. Have the same issue with my 06 5AT. I found a 95% fix, installed a transmission cooler (which I needed anyway because I'm FI) and the problem only pops up occasionally now. Based on what I could find on the site, I think the "symptoms" are from the torque converter, but the "disease" is the transmission control module. I noticed that (with my car at least), whenever I cold-started the car, the problem never surfaced within the first ten minutes of driving. It only seemed to appear after everything had warmed up.

What did you do?

All I did was take the service man for a ride and it did it's thing while Infiniti was in the car, first thing they did was reset and reflash the TCM. Its been 3k since and it has never got the shakes once. I wish I knew how to reset the TCM like the ECU.
