I need more boost!!!
I need more boost!!!
So This weekend I was traveling home and had a older body style Viper come along side of me on the freeway.
The short version is that I got beat, but not by much! I'm only running 5lbs with my greddy kit. Ive been trying to get in to my tuner for more power, but he's been swamped lately. So hopefully I will run into Mr. Viper here in the next two weeks and have a very different outcome.
Built motor, upgraded fuel, 750 injectors, greddy TT kit, and 275 tires.
I cant wait.

Wait - TT. built motor and 5lbs - and only 315 to the wheels?? hmmmmm....something doesn't sound right at all. At 8 lbs - you'll be sitting at 380?
For those power goals, why a built motor? A stock Vortech system puts out more than that and is much cheaper overall. Are you going for more serious boost, I hope, with that setup? What are your power goals?

I think you should be running a wider tire than a 275 - im running 285's and im N/A...still can't get traction.

Im not a tuner by any means, but literally the kit was put on and plugged in the lap top for like 10min and sent me on my way. As far as goals...I would like to hit 450hp. I'd be just fine with that as this is my daily driver. If this seems like overkill for ONLY 450hp, well call it peace of mind I guess.

This way I get a good balance of cooler and warmer conditions, into even hot conditions. I end up with 3-4 tunes to choose from through out the year, as necessary.
Be careful with that tune you have. I wouldn't push the car at all...you never really know how lean or rich you are, and your tuner can't possibly tell you what it could be after 10 minutes either. An average, just to get you going tune is at least 30-45 minutes, on a dyno, once the car is good an warm.
I did a few mods to my car, a full fuel system, and the sample tune I got from my tuner(s) was from a similarly equipped 350Z single turbo car, with instruction to not take the car over 3500 RPM's until I got to the dyno.

Agreed...Maybe Im making sound a little to easy. My tuner called, said come and get it, by the time I got there it was sitting on the dyno NOT running. He pulled it down and went down the road with the lappy still hooked up for the 10min I was referring to. He said he left the tune "on the rich side" and that I could take it and "beat the crap out of it". With that in mind and the fact that this is again my daily driver, I dont "beat the crap out of it" or even take it to red line. I just dont see the point on public roads. To me the car runs good, except for an annoying exhaust leak and my indicators (gauges) havent told me any different. As far as numbers go...again 450whp sounds pretty reasonable to me.
Also the car besides the turbo kit and supporting upgrades for it is stock, I still am running the stock exhaust and Front bumper which as you know only gets maybe a quarter of the a flow in. I dont make a lot of money but I figured the money I have would be better spent supporting the vital parts first.
I didnt mean for this thread to get out of subject, but everyone's comments and concerns are appreciated...Im new to a boosted car and so far its been fun while a patience testing experience.
Boost PSI without inside plenum air temperature data [air density] is pretty meaningless since a 100F differential can result in a minimum of 9% and more likely 13% difference in power output.
Exceeding 150F will cause real problems with pump gasoline.

315? You definately need to turn up the boost and get her dialed in. What, besides the Greddy TT and a built bottom end, have you done w/ your car? It obviously has a lot more potential.
Remember, at 450 you are going to have a nice reliable daily driver w/ good power, not a car that you can be serious about street racing with (which , I know, is frowned upon on this forum). You might be able to play w/ a stock Viper, but in my world the Vipers that like to race are TT w/ 1000+ to the wheels.
If one pulls up next to you and is hising, be ready for a walking.

So needless to say Im excited about the cars potential especially since I see so many members from this board with their really nice cars and setups. Im glad this site and the other one is here.
