There is a TSB for the sprockets on the 03-04 models I think, mine used to rattle or grind at start up, found out one of the guides had broken off, left it to late and the chain broke another guide and chain wore into the crank.

This may be a completely different issue to what you guys may be reffering to though.

my 07 6mt coupe produces this same noise on startup sporadically and will always do it when the tempurature outside is cold and it has sat overnight. I currently garage mine for the winter as I live in MN and driving a car like this in the grit and grime would be nothing short of a crime. This spring I do plan on taking it in to the dealership to see if they can figure out what it is. I will do my best to remember this posting so I can update....

I am getting a similar noise I believe, I have an 03 5AT and when the car hasnt been on for a while it makes a grind noise when I put the car in D and start moving. Sounds like something is being "released" and quickly goes away. I have tried replicating the noise by putting it in park and back to D but I can't. But once I turn my car off and back on then engage into D, I get the noise again. Anyone familiar with this or have the same type of problem?

I've also been hearing a similar noise for quite some months now. Had the car into the dealership multiple times before the warranty ran out -- the first time in they tried charging me $760 to replace some solenoid. After settling that ordeal, I pick the car up and the noise isn't gone. I then proceed to call the dealership and they say that they didn't even hear the noise I was explaining to them. So I replied, what were you trying to fix then sir? After all this bullsh*t, I just got used to ignoring it. Took it back in a few times later just so I could have more documentation to present to Infiniti when my engine seizes. So now that my warranty is expired, the dealership claims this problem is due to engine sludge.. I have 59,000 miles on my engine, this problem is not related to engine sludge you idiot. The next time I take it in, now I have carbon deposit build up. I ran Seafoam through the carbeurator and discovered that no, that indeed was not the problem.

I'll try to record a video and post it up to you guys so you can see if we're all experiencing the same issue. My noise happens regardless of the temperature or anything, it will never happen twice in a row but if the car is off for more than 10min than it will repeat, just not as loud.

Hello guys...any updates or conclusions as to what this "noise" is all about? I have the same type of noise when starting up the car from cold and going about 6-7mph. After that I don't hear it again. I have an 03 5AT. Thanks.

Hate to be the guy to do a old thread revival, but I'm having the exact same noise and it's starting to freak me out. My dealership power train warranty is about to expire and I need to know what the problem is so I might be able to get it fixed under that without dropping money on it. Have any of you all found the problem yet by chance?

Saw this in a different thread describing the same noise, "Your car performs an ABS self test once you start it up and go at a really low speed."

Is this a good explanation/answer?
