This is a thread for discussing oil attributes and collecting Used Oil Analysis (UOA) reports in order to determine which oil brands and weights are the best for the VQ engines. A UOA is a test done on an oil to measure engine wear and oil viscosity. The results allow us to see how well it has performed in an engine.

are castrol 5w50 and mobile 1 5w50 too thick for street driving, drift and autox? My oil pressure drops to little under 15 psi from 30 psi after little bit of drifting at events.
i never saw 5w50 until yesterday.

Oddest thing...

I am new owner of a 07 G35 Sedan. I removed the muffs and put straight pipes. Had that great throaty sound like a 350Z. Changed the oil with NextGen (please refrain from the flaming).
I swear the car no longer has that sound and revs high a little longer at startup.

Explain to them the problem and that you understand that there is a TSB (technical service bulletin) out already about the oil consumption. Then tell them you have notified your attorney and the BBB (better business bureau) but first go www.bbb.com and file a complaint, you can find the business by using the phone number provided above. Also file a complaint against the dealership you have been using. Be truthful, concise, and to the point while filling out the complaint. Then contact Corporate Infiniti. Usually they will put file your complaint and tell them the name of the dealership, they will contact the dealership and you should be getting a new engine. Lots of red tape, but worth it. I used this method and had my engine shipped and installed within a week of the complaint. They even gave me a M35 to drive while they had my car.(depends on dealership you use)
Hello G3LU5,
I have the same problem with my 04 G35 coupe, I am the first owner and try to keep the car in top shape but it burns oil like there is no tomorrow. i did mentioned the problem to the dealership but was not offered any solutions. since I can get the car serviced for cheap at another shop I have not been back to the dealer for about a year. do you recomend I talk to them first before proceding place the bbb complaint. please advice

6MT Coupe
^Oil consumption thread(s) here:
https://g35driver.com/forums/tsb-tec...ption-tsb.html
http://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-d...iscussion.html

In a nut-shell: TSB is only for 05-07.5 6MT coupes and 05-06 6MT sedans. Plus if you're out of warranty you're SOL no matter which year G or type of tranny you have.

I've been running pennzoil 5w-30 for about 40k miles. Would switching to the german castrol 0w-30 hurt anything?

No, it wouldn't hurt anything, but I would recommend sticking with the pennzoil, IMO it's a better oil and has great UOA's to prove it.

these charts are very informative..... the german castrol puts out some great wear numbers, but seems to break down very fast..... i wouldnt take these charts to heart though.... some engines may be in better shape than others when the analysis was done... id rather see one engine switch between some of them and compare the results... thatd be much more reliable

^ in order to do that you would need atleast 3-5 oil changes with the exact same driving habits.

Its easier just to look across many peoples reports.

Dont forget Just because UOA shows great #'s does not mean you wont spin a bearing.

Here is a good read on UOA's

Hello.

What is the best 'anti-wear' oil for 03 G?

Now I'm using 5w-30

Changing every 8000KM or 5000Miles.

The temperature here is moderate (-5(C) + 35(C) ).

I'm reviewing Mobil 1 0w-40 or 5w-50.

What do you recommend?

Mobil 1 0w-40 is good as is Castrol Syntec 0w-30 or 0w-40. If your looking for a cheaper high quality oil I run Castrol GTX 5w-30 for 4k miles with no issues. Pennzoil Platinum 0w-40 would also be a good choice. Our engines really love Castrol oil and I've never had any problems or excessive noise using GC 0w30 or GTX 5w-30.
