Fuel needle drunk??

So I drive on the NW Indiana toll road every day to work. 32 miles one way of flat ice covered death pavement. My fuel gauge was reading exactly 1/2 when I left home. By the time I got to the end of my scary ride, the needle was 2 small marks below 1/2. That's fine, whatever. But I paid my toll and drove the last 2 miles to work and found the needle was now sitting between half and the mark below it parked on a flat lot. I have also found once the fuel gets really low the needle tends to fluctuate quite a bit. Seems very touchy to uneven surfaces. Anyone else seeing this?

Re: Fuel needle drunk??

That's been the case with any car I've had with a larger gas tank. My Lincoln Continental and Ford Explorer Sport Track both do the same thing. My old Altima even did that.

I'm sure it's due to the fact the gas has space to move around and trip up the guage that measures it.

No way! I work around tires enough to know not to do that. I have the Pirelli 210 Snow Sports and Sport Edition Fox 5's.. Heck, heres a pic at my friends house.. excuse the salt, it keep the death ice from staying on the roads hehe

I noticed crazy readings until I put on Gordgee's 7 wire HG kit. The
fuel gague became predictable after the installation.

I can never get the d*mn car to full no matter how much u top off or even how slowly you pour the gas in. The minute I pull out of the gas station the needle drops 2 ticks. What the F**K!!

davey, I had a simlar problem, turned out that fuel sending unit needed to be replaced. Call your dealer and have them check it out.

Re: Fuel needle drunk??

I have that problem too and that thing is driving me crazy! The dealership checked it out and it tested out fine. The gas gauge seems the worse when I top it off. Maybe I have found the solution now after all of this time but I am so sick of going there all of the time. I hate their waiting area.

Taking it in for 15K service. Will ask the dealer to take a look just in case

Re: Fuel needle drunk??

Hmm..The waiting area at Lokey Infiniti is actually quite nice...they re modeled the whole interior of their showroom right about when they introduced the G35 coupe...they serve coffee and donuts and cookies..and even have nice furnite you can sit and watch the news on via a nice big flat screen...Although ive only sat in there once (in between my 2nd and 3rd tranny) because I usually opt for the Sedan loaner to have some fun with. for some reason they are alot more fun to drive than MY coupe (jk)!

Re: Fuel needle drunk??

I liked my last dealer's (Nissan) waiting area. Well, it wasn't so much the waiting area as the receptionist... Maybe I should swing by someday and see if I can convince her to upgrade to Infiniti.....

Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

Re: Fuel needle drunk??

They have a a few chairs crammed into a little area surrounded by some dividers. There is a 32" tv. And coffee. Thats it. I've spent way too many hours in there too. When I go in next week I am going to ask for an FX loaner.
