!!!! QUICK ADVICE ON S281 SALEEN
Ok guys check it out i got a buddy of mine with a 2002 or 2003 mustang saleen S281 non super charged he has a 5 speed and i got a 2003 g35 coupe 5 A/T we are thinking on racing later on tonight and he went to irwindale speed way and ran his car in a 1/8 of a mile and he say's he ran 8.880 and last time i was there i ran a 9.660 so im not to sure if i can beat him i have a injen cai in my car but i have 20" chrome wheels and he has his car is all stock so im in need of a lil advice so if any one can help me fast and tell me what u guys think it would be cool thanks......oh by the way he is soposed to be a pretty good driver ?

My advice? If you don't want to lose to him, then don't race him.
Even the non-supercharged Saleen S281 is faster than your run-of-the-mill Mustang GT. Plus, you said you have an automatic tranny coupe with 20" chrome wheels? Sorry, but you're toast, unless the Saleen driver can't drive for his life.

I would say that you probably won't take him. Even though Saleens are overrated, it is still going to be putting about 270 to the wheels. When I had my old Cobra, I dynoed next to a Supercharged S281 and he only put down 320 to the wheels. I was unimpressed. Especially with your 20's, I would think you won't win. Give it a shot though. Just my $.02.

Saleens are not overrated. My friend's stock 2000 S281 SC runs 4.7 0-60 and 1/4 mile in the high 12s. they are fast. And 320 to the wheels isn't bad for a car that is supposed to put 365 to the crank.

Yes they are. Too much for the money. A 2003-04 cobra would whoop either saleen, and would run even with a 281 extreme. I should know, I've raced them all. Plus it has IRS. 2 valves per cylinder vs. 4. Not worth the money.

For you to even have a chance, I would take off those HEAVY 20inch rims and put back on the lighter stock ones. And, I would do an ECU reset before the race.

His time sounds about right, it is about a low 14' in the 1/4. Go ahead and run him. It should be a good run from a roll. Try a 40-60 puch to 140+ and manually shift. A stock S281 NA is rated at 285 HP, vs. a stock GT's 260 HP. The differences are in the Saleen over a stock GT are the air filter, underdrive pulleys, cat-back exhaust and an ECU program. They weigh around 3400 lbs depending on options and typically run a low 14'. Your CAI won't make a difference on the outcome, but depending on weight you could lose a significant amount of wheel power due to the 20's.
