Avoid it like the plague. It's not the engine that's a big issue. You could probably change the oil and it would be fine. It's all the wiring in the car and potential rust in the future. If they totalled it, count yourself lucky and use the money to buy another one. Good luck!

+1^ the fact that it was flooded, means you will definitely have problems in the future with rust/electrical/and other things.

Was it a fresh water flood or salt water flood, it makes a big difference! How high did the water get? I am guessing that it got pretty high if the motor is bad.

I've seen fresh watter flooded cars fixed and running like new and reliably for years. If you do keep the car make sure to get everything dried up, you might have to take the carpet out and leave it out for a few days. Then have a tech disassemble all of the connectors that got wet, dry them and lube them or spray them down with WD40. If they are rusted already get a new harness.

If the engine is bad drop in a used one, it will be cheaper and faster and you can probably get the harness from the same car.

About 3 years ago I had my shop in the back of a salvaged car dealer, I remember him saying that flooded cars were some of the best bargains since there was zero body damage and most of them had good engines, you just need to know what to do to get them in proper shape.

Good luck!!
