Vehicle Selection Matrix Spreadsheet

After being asked by many people how I determined the G35 Sedan was right for me, I decided to put this spreadsheet together for them. I thought a few people would also be interested here as well.

I've used this for more than just car purchases, so it's pretty easy to manipulate, edit, and use. Here are some details:

- allows for up to 5 cars to be measured
- all responses are weighted and ranked
- winners in each major area are identified
- final winner is identified by measuring all weighted scores
- you determine the weight to be applied
- you determine the importance level
- just enter in a ranking and watch the results show up

To use this tool just modify the Importance percentage to your needs, modify the Weight for each criteria in each Major Category, enter the car names in the top table (where the major categories are located), and start entering your ranking.

The criterias that were used are subjective and can be changed. Just be sure that formulas don't get screwed up. These just happen to be what I was looking at, and they may not be the same for you.

Give it a try, and if you like it let me know! I've included a pick of what it looks like and a link to download the spreadsheet.

Thanks,

- JC

Dude... if you knew all the answers about the other cars, didn't it take longer to make the spreadsheet than make up your mind?

Re: Vehicle Selection Matrix Spreadsheet

Almost...I've had this for a while. I've used it on other large purchases. I didn't go balistic with this because it is intended to help after you've narrowed your choices down. I liked all the cars, and actually had money down on the Jag X-Type - man I'm glad I never got that car because it's having some major problems!

The hard part for me was that I wanted the G so bad after I drove it for the first time, but the closet dealer to me is three hours away. That's why you don't see too many dealer related criteria items! I figured the trip to the dealer would allow me to enjoy my ride even more!

Re: Vehicle Selection Matrix Spreadsheet

haha

I wanted a Jag instead of the G.. but not the X type... it looks too cheap.. and its the "cheap" jag in my opinion.. it kind of reminds me of a ford taurus...

My next car as of now: Jaguar S Type!! these look awesome ... i love the way the front grille looks!!!!

Re: Vehicle Selection Matrix Spreadsheet

I know, the S-Type is beautiful. Of all things, our city has a Jag dealer but no Infiniti! They have a black S-Type R in the showroom as I write this.

They called me on Monday to come out and see it, and some of the dealers there wanted to see the G since there's only 2 in this entire area that I know of. In fact, the last time I saw the other (or any other for that matter) G was back in October, so who knows if it was a local or not.

Anyway, if you like the S-type you'll crap when you see the S-type R - HOLY @#$@#$ is it nice! If I had the cash it would have been mine. Unfortunately I could only have a test drive if I was a serious buyer.

The dealers also liked the G quite a bit as well. We had the G next to the X-Type making comparisons. Nothing negative at all was said by them. In fact they wanted to drive it but it wouldn't have looked too good to see the Jag dealer drive off with a G! It all got broken up when word got up to their main office that people were looking at the G instead of their cars. I was then nicely asked to leave, but was still thanked for taking time to see the Type R and given a cool mug!

Re: Vehicle Selection Matrix Spreadsheet

Have you test driven a S type? The seats are Ford Contour covered in leather. The interior is full of Ford parts bin switchs and *****. The interior is small but the car is too. It looks great but the interior takes it off my list. I had really considered it before my G. The X type was not an option at any price-Ford Contour with a body kit and AWD and no motor to move the heft of the "jagging" process.
