so, i know it opens at a lower temperature (something like 154 vs 170 stock i think). but... i'm still learning, what does this actually do?

does this mean that the cooling systen of the car is activated when the water temp reaches a lower temp? and if so, does this just mean that the car begins to run its cooling system sooner?

i'm just curious as to the long-term performance gains.,.. or what effects this mod actually does.

Basically, helps keep the car cooler during hard driving/track situations. More of a reliability upgrade rather then a performance upgrape.

 

Right, having a NISMO thermostat for daily driving isn't going to give any benefits. Where it will give benefits is on the track where constant high temperatures are normal due to regular hard driving. Having the lower temperature thermostat will keep the car running at a cooler level. For normal daily driving that might not be so good since there is a nominal engine temp range the car needs to run in for optimal engine life, gas mileage, etc.

what dklau said was absolutely correct. I had one installed on my previous car. For every day driving my thermometer was usually just below the 1/2 mark. After the upgrade, it runs just around the 1/4 mark. When I drive it harder, it moves back up to the 1/2 mark, but it can sometmies return to the 1/4 when cruising. So, it gives the engine that extra cushion of cooling period. It's a good buy if you have FI. But along with FI comes oil cooler, and higher pressure radiator cap and etc....
