Study on mechanics

Interesting article on a couple of studies done - one formal and one informal - on the competence and honesty of mechanics.

Does anyone know of any GOOD mechanic rating sites out there? I checked out a couple but they were pretty sparse on ratings. <o>

With any mechanic there going think there smarter then you. The reason I know this is because I even if I tell them to do something and they something that think there right there do it there way. Which is sometime's the wrong way.

Plus I do everything myself on my car.

A good diagnostic technical expert is difficult to find in US. The country is full of incompetent mechanics trained years ago who haven't bothered to keep up with engineering and technology. Electronics is very foreign to many.

Even Infiniti dealerships are lucky if they can find 1 or 2 truely qualified technicans. Nissan requires dealers to have at least 1 with a Master Certification which in my mind is just an introductory minimal qualification.

Smart technical people don't want work 60 hours per week and every other Saturday and get dirty and destroy their skin and back for a measley $50-60k per year.
