Power/Mod/Life

Would adding a Turbo/Supercharger reduce the life expectancy of the engine? If so, by about how much?

Don't ask.
There are too many variables.

Re: Power/Mod/Life

I think whenever you add a mod that significantly changes the hp output of the car, especially a forced induction mod such as a turbocharger or supercharger, you can definately expect things in the engine to wear out faster than they would if you left it stock.

Keep in mind I am referring to internal parts of the engine and not necessarily total engine failure.

I am sure once your turbo is insalled you will wear out any Mustangs even more quickly.

Re: Power/Mod/Life

SVT Cobra has a very robust engine, a bulletproof transmission, and a low-boost supercharger (with a lower-than-normal-mustang compression ratio).... I think the engine and drivetrain, at least, will stand the test of time real well. I'm a bit worried about adding boost to an engine not designed for FI....

Part of the reason I decided on the 6MT over the Automatic is because I'd expect it to hold up better when more power is added. That make any sense?

Re: Power/Mod/Life

Time will tell how everything holdsup with our cars.

I personally feel that we arent going to have any problem reaching HP of up to 450. I think beyond that we will start seeing damages to the car. But with some minor changes to the transmision and drive shaft I bet we could see some crazy 600+. Im hoping to top out at around 350-400 hp. Any more than that and I dont think any of my friends will want to ride with me, and if that becomes the case then I should have just gone with a completely bare bones g and gutted it.

I don't really think 450hp is realistic number for our beloved G35 without mod of parts inside the engine. Another 50 will do for me. how much do you think superchange kits & installation by dealer will cost us?
