Hard to Turn Steering Wheel

Now let me preface this also by saying around the time I started noticing it, I took a spirited turn where I felt a significant bump, I believe near the rear passenger side wheel. At first I thought I may have hit the curb but I couldn't see any damage. This was also around the time when I got my DD so I have only been driving the G maybe once a week.

So the problem with my steering is that its a little harder to turn than usual especially at parking lot speeds. Additionally the ride in general has felt a little less smooth especially at higher speeds. The rougher ride is very subtle and I probably never would have noticed everything wasnt so buttery smooth normally. I wish I could be more specific, its hard to describe but something just doesnt feel quite right.

The power steering fluid is pretty much right at the low mark but still technically in range. I got an alignment, still same problem. Is it possible I loosened a belt or damaged the power steering pump? Would either of those explain the ride quality issue. Any advice before I take it somewhere for a checkout?

Thanks.

This thread was started 14 years ago, prices have almost certainly changed.

You can loosen up that u-joint by spraying it with WD40, it will get you by until you have a chance to shop around for price quotes to get it fixed. If you look down near the headers on the left/driver side of the engine bay you will see that steering u-joint.
