just put 5k miles on my first royal purple oil change and im very happy with this oil. it's still as smooth and easy reving as when i first changed it over. im getting 350 to a tank and i had to add 2 quarts of oil in that 5k mile span. the funny thing is when the oil level gets half a quart low you can really tell. i have a power enterprise oil pan coming in tomorrow so im going to change the oil while i install the new pan. ill have a nice 6.25 qt. capacity now. im really impressed by the oil and i dont want to see any links to an oil analysis, the G LOVES ROYAL PURPLE.

 

Yeah,I noticed same thing, RP made car run very smooth. And that momentary cold engine rattle at start up went away. I don't have consumption problem though.

 

did you have the consumption issue before the RP? the reason i ask is because the RP 5w-30 tests as a 20 weight oil. if i was burning 2 quarts every 5k i would consider something in the 30 if not a thin 40 like mobil 1 0w-40. ignoring facts and going with gut feelings could be a downfall but the larger pan is great insurance. i certainly would not think about FI or extending the rev limiter using RP.

 

why wouldnt you run rp with an extended rev limiter??? theres no reason. using 10w-30 rp on a non revup vq with a 7100 limiter would be perfectly fine.

i am simply speaking based on the facts provided by the analysis and my comfort level with running a thin oil into higher rpms with an engine that has a reputation for burning oil. i changed my mind, i would definetely get 5w-30 RP now. i would really like to pay $8 retail for an oil that gets outperformed by $1.50 retail castrol gtx dino oil. btw, i do not run currently run either of these oils but i did use the castrol gtx for break-in.
