Oil Consumption

Hey Guys,

I'm looking to purchase a new G35 and have come across a really good deal on one. 2006 with under 10K miles for under 24K but the catch is the car was bought back by Infiniti due to excessive oil consumption. The dealer claims the car was fixed by Infiniti and then sold back with a manufacturer buyback title. The car appears to be very clean and is the ideal color / option package for what I'm looking for.

Is there anything I should look out for on the vehicle or would you not touch this car with a 10 foot pole.

Thanks

I would get it and keep using the fact that it had an oil consumption prob to bring down the price even more.

as long as it comes with the full factory warranty and everything is what you are looking for why not? I assume this is a 6-speed model due to the oil consumption. Did they replace the engine? Maybe dig a little deeper and see exactly what was fixed.

I tried to do some checking but the dealership (not an Infiniti dealer) doesn't have any information and the Houston area Inifiniti dealerships won't release any service records on the car since I wasn't the owner during the repairwork. The car does have the remaining warranty but it still concerns me.

The car is an 06 Sedan with under 10K that they are asking less than 22K for but I bet could be had for 18-19K without much hassle. Assuming the problems are fixed that's a smoking deal. Is replacing the engine the only fix for oil consumption? Is there anyway I can tell doing a visual inspection about whether or not the engine was replaced?

Anybody else have any thought?

The car you're interested in is basically a "Lemon". If you don't mind that or not going to sell the car in the future then there's no problem. I would just make sure the engine is fine, maybe bring a mechanic with you. If not, I don't see why a dealer wouldn't honor the factory warranty on a manufacturer buyback. I would definetely try to lower the price. Has the car been sitting on the lot awhile? Carfax!

You better contact Infiniti consumer services and make sure the warranty is still intact if it is really a lemon.
