Car almost stalls waiting at lights, or when stopped

So this morning I got in my car and came to s stop sign...car started shaking and almost stalled. Service engine light on and also notice the rpm needle going almost to zero then bouncing back up. Later on the ABS light on, VDC OFF light on and SLIP lit up along with service engine. Now it's back to just showing service engine light. the shaking and almost stalling happened several times.

We have bad weather up here just wondering if it's something to do with the VDC or something totally different. Any ideas?

2003 automatic sedan. Thanks. Any way of doing a self diagnostic test, I used to be able tot do it in my maxima by turning a screw, if not I will take it to get scanned by dealer I guess

Sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere. Matter of fact I'm willing to bet it is, I've seen this in three different cars, they shake while idling but smooth out when you hit the gas. Get it looked at and checked for a leak somewhere and just get it sealed, I would go to the dealer and nowhere else if I were you.

Check your intake plenum and throttle body for any loose bolts. If you have a cold air intake check everything to make sure it’s tightly secure if not i would still check the oem setup. I would also think about cleaning your mass airflow sensor, you can pick up some MAF cleaner at discount auto. Also check if you need a new intake filter or clean your CAI filter..

I agree that it sounds like a vacuum leak or water in the motor.

Ok will do...Thanks guys!

I thought of it being the MAF, hopefully doesn't need replacing.

So no way of doing a self diagnostic to determine what codes it triggered?

yeah you can do the old school screw method where you count the CEL lights but its easier just to go to autozone or somewhere like that where they can scan the car with an OBD-II scanner free of charge.

I just was reading the FSM and i guess they dont use the screw method like the older nissan's did. Its actually easier now.

How to Set Diagnostic Test Mode II (Self-diagnostic Results)

1. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch ON and wait 3 seconds.
2. Repeat the following procedure quickly five times within 5 seconds.
a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal.
b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
3. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the MIL starts blinking.
4. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
ECM has entered to Diagnostic Test Mode II (Self-diagnostic results).

I would download your year G35 FSM from here if you havent. You will find all the codes in there.

well that was beyond scary...took forever to put it in diagnostic mode....finally did got the following light patterns:

10 slow, 10 fast pause 2 fast, then 1

assuming code 1010 & 0201 ???

Here is the thing. After getting the codes...car didn't start, when I went to start it all it did was make a loud click, click, click sound from engine....battery is good tried boosting anyways, same issue. Noise came from (standing at center) from upper rear right side of engine cover...tapped that area with a rod while brother turn key car started...stuck solenoid? was car stuck in diag mode...really worried now

did you turn the key to OFF after getting the codes before you started the car?

ya I turned the key off...didn't know i had to hold the gas pedal again to clear the codes....debating about doing this all over to clear the Service Engine Soon...after what happened last time. But yes I did turn the car off and then tried to start it and it just clicked loudly repeatedly

I don’t get what you are trying to do, You most likely have a slight vacuum leak and thats all.
