ive heard it on other cars, but they all have a distributor and the static timing can be changed easily. im assuming this tech was offering to advance your timing for you? from what i understood it has to be done with some type of scan tool.

i dont think it will gain a whole lot of horsepower, but im sure it will improve the throttle response and feel a bit more "peppy"

I have heard this one as well... Manufacturers typically retard a few degrees to be on the safe side and allow for minor anomalies in conditions that could cause detonation. If you don't want to be on the "safe" side, this mod could be for you.

Yes, many of us with the FX have been doing this timing advance "mod" to our motors. Most of us have just done a +2 BTDC advance, which is within factory spec. The purpose is to get better engine response at lower to midrange RPMs, quicker to rev, better throttle tip-in, etc... Many people have described it as making the vehicle feel "lighter on its feet". If you don't know the intent of advancing the timing, simply put it helps produce more power by igniting the sparks sooner, providing more time for the fuel/air mixture to burn completely, and increasing cylinder pressure, thus providing more power. All Nissan/Infiniti dealers CAN do this with a Consult II/III (although most of them don't know it). If you do this mod, you MUST use premium fuel to prevent detonation!! Here are some lenghty discussions on InfinitiFX.org.

You can do this with the Autoenginuity OBDII scanner + Nissan enhanced. Or the Uprev OBDII scanner stuff will do it too.

In theory the WOT mixture should have combusted [by geater than 66% mass] when the piston is just at or just before 16 degrees after top dead center........the point at which maximal downward thrust is placed on piston, rod crankshaft...................if this occurs too early you get knock and too late you slowly loose power.

All this depends on fuel, air and coolant temperature..........the drivability-knock index for fuel and the flame speed for fuel and air.

At best advancing 1 degrees increases power by 1% and raises octane requirement by 1.5 points per degree.

Well if every 1 degree is worth 1% then 2 is worth 2%. Even with a conservatively rated 260hp sedan that's worth an est 5.2 hp. I'd take that in a hearbeat

Sure. I'd like to confirm that this actually stuck by checking my timing. It shows some funky value like -80. I think it's timing via a 180 or 360 deg wheel. But in the autoenginuity thread, they got more normal looking values like -15 or -17. That's what I need to see. I gotta check what auto tranny sensors are available to check for Drewer anyway so I have to fire this thing up again anyway. I'll try to confirm soon.
