Dip Stick Problems (No Jokes)
Hi Everyone...
I'm fairly new to this web site but I've had my G35 coupe/ 6mt for about 11 mo. I am having a goofy problem. I can not get a good reading from the oil dip stick on my car. When I pull it out, it get's covered with oil as it makes the bends in the tube. I went to the dealer and asked the Service Mgr. He got a tech and tried it many times. They both agree it won't work as it should. This is not a old, used, Yugo for God sakes. I ought to be able to check the freaking oil!!! Just wanted to know if any of you have had the same problem? Thanks!!!
Zac

Re: Dip Stick Problems (No Jokes)
I had the same problem on my last I35 as well as my new Coupe.
The only real way to get an accurate reading is to let the car sit on level ground for a few hours and the first time you pull the stick is your best shot at the level.
Any other method was futile....never could get a "clean" reading otherwise....
Since I change the oil every 3,000 miles, I never really concern myself if the oil goes down a bit...
On my I35 the first time I checked my oil I thought it was low.
when I added the oil and let it sit for awhile, (cause I couldn't get the stick out clean,) I found I had added too much oil...so
take my advice just check it in the morning after it sits overnight, and use caution when pulling out the stick...should work for ya! 2old4this

Re: Dip Stick Problems (No Jokes)
I've owned a Maxima, an Infiniti I-30, and now my G35s. All of these cars have had hard-to-read dipsticks. A very common solution to this nagging dilemma is to:
Remove the dipstick.
Wipe the dipstick clean.
Replace the dipstick in the tube all the way.
Say a quick prayer.
Pull the dipstick out.
Look at the dipstick from every angle under a bright light.
Swear under your breath.
Repeat this procedure 5 or 6 times, then reluctantly conclude the oil level is OK. This procedure works wonders whether the engine is hot or cold, the car sits upon level or sloped grades, or whether the dipstick is read by an Infiniti Service Tech, your neighborhood quick oil change mechanic, or your Aunt Sallie!
Good luck.

Re: Dip Stick Problems (No Jokes)
Ok, I read this a while back, and haven't had a chance to check it out, but here goes.
Warm the car up, then turn the engine off and let it sit for 10 minutes on flat ground.
Take the dip stick out, wipe it off, and wait 30-90 seconds. Put it back in, pull it out and check the reading.
The post I read that in said that keeping it out for a while made a big difference.
Someone try this out and let us know...

Re: Dip Stick Problems (No Jokes)
I truly miss an Oil Pressure gauge....
even though it didn't give a reading as to volume, it always
was a good indicator of the oil's performing quality.
I could always tell when my other cars were low or due for a change by the oil pressure....
Maybe its something that will come in a future model....

Re: Dip Stick Problems (No Jokes)
i'm surprised that more "performance" cars like our G don't have an oil pressure gauge. since they quit putting them in most cars that's one of the reasons i was driving pickups and suvs. but i couldn't resist the G, with or without the oil pressure gauge. i'm gonna have to get one installed though. i don't like driving at cold temps without it.
