Hood Support Mod?

Does anyone know, or done a mod to remove the rather "cheap" hood support for some shock type supports?

Is it even possible? My I35 had the hood struts and it was so convenient to have the hood open on its own and stay open without that silly rod....2old4this

Re: Hood Support Mod?

My dealer made it a point to tell me that the G35 is the only Infiniti to have a hood prop, and that it is because the hood is aluminum and cannot be properly supported with gas shocks.

Re: Hood Support Mod?

I wasn't aware that the hood was aluminum......
it sure feels mighty heavy for an aluminum piece.....
Kevin...how did you get your remote to operate the window up function....was this a mod as well? 2old4this

Re: Hood Support Mod?

There is a super long thread on here about the windows up with OEM remote... its under the 'technical' forum. In short, it is a microcontroller based circuit I created for my car and I am now in the process of mass producing them for sale. For more info check out www.kptechnologies.net

I was a little skeptical about this statement so when I got home this morning I put my sedan to the magnet test. Sure enough the magnet would not stick to the hood!

No faith in my wealth of useless knowledge?

Haha! The only reason I remembered that it was aluminium is because as soon as my salesperson told me I made a mental note that using the hood as a ground for a mercury tilt switch would not work!

Re: Hood Support Mod?

aluminum conducts electricity. They used to use it as house wiring back in the day.

KPierson......I stand corrected.....You the man!
It must be heavy gauge aluminum.....sure feels like a stamped steel hood.....2old4this

Re: Hood Support Mod?

OK...Here's a test! What other production car(s) has an aluminum hood? And what kind of lifting system does it have for the hood?

Re: Hood Support Mod?

If anyone knows or has done this in the past on another car please let us know......I think it would be a big improvement over that ROD!
