Re: Painted engine cover

I have been cruising around the forums at www.350zfrenzy.com and have come across this guy Rob (ZPRESENCE) who does absolutely AWESOME painting work on the 350z engine bay... i was going to contact him to do mine for me whan the time comes

the 350Z guys basically just ship him their engine cover and battery/brake covers (i think he's located somewhere in Florida) and he factory matches the paint... check out some of his work here
(i know it's pricey but his attention to detail and outstanding work speak for themselves from the pics... i think he'll also do any color combo you could want.... i attached a pic above

Stormxshadow, your setup is exactly what i'm planning on doing with mine, but i think i'm gunna install the cover on the driver side also and paint it the same

Re: Painted engine cover

notice the little details too... he paints the air guide plate (that thing at the front of the engine bay) and all the caps for the fluids on the left of the engine compartment

i was wondering too did anybody attempt to paint the heat shield of the Popcharger? i think it would look alot cooler if it matched the silver of the engine cover

Re: Painted engine cover

The details help a lot to tie it in all together. I can appreciate the time and labor for the link on www.350zfrenzy.com. It is time consuming to get it right. It took a long while of filling and sanding to get mine looking the way I wanted.

Re: Painted engine cover

that black/silver setup is sweet.... i like how you painted the battery and brake covers to match

How did you remove the indent for the Nissan logo when you put the Infiniti one on there? or did you just put the Infiniti one right over it?

Re: Painted engine cover

Hey guys !!

I filled the Nissan inset with a 2 part clay filler. Mix them together and you have 10 minutes to work it until set. I did that from the underside of the raised letters "V6" and "3.5". Let it harden and grind and sand and wet sant until smooth. I did the same for the logo indent on the top side. Thank goodness for electric sanders. Plastic primer with a good wet sand and then several layers of Charcoal metalflake before I taped and added the matching powder coat color to the raised sections.

For the 2 covers over the battery and brake areas I ground out the word Battery as well as the + & - symbols. Filled them and sanded similar to the engine cover. Again, thank goodness for electric sanders. Primer, wetsand, several coats of color.

I topped them all off with 3 coats of clear with a light 2000 grit wetsand inbetween to get rid of any "Orange Peel".

A lot of work but still cheaper than a body shop. . .

If you have any questions, PM me and I will let you know if I can help.

Good luck and happy modding!!
