Yes, no timing belt in our VQ's, we have timing chains.

Anyone know what kind of service the chain guides are supposed to get?

I've looked all over the owners manual, service manual and even through sites like edmunds which gives you a mileage/service breakdown and nothing is ever mentioned regarding service and the timing chain.

This boggles me.

Yeah, chains should never need to be replaced or service throughout the life of the engine - at least that's always been my understanding

I bought the G BECAUSE it has a chain. Effing belts are a rip as they charge 600 buck or something to make you change them at 60K.

I have had about 17 cars and never an issue with a chain. Belts suck!

I've heard that the chain guides are what wears out causing slack in the chain which can result in the chain coming off. Usually when the guides wear out it causes a loud tapping/ticking noise from the chain slapping around in the engine. Not sure if that applies to the VQ, but thats what happened to my brothers Toyota.

I never knew any Toyota had a chain, I thought they all had a belt but maybe not.
