changing the timing

Hey i went to the dealer today and asked about getting the timing changed from 15 degrees to 17 degrees but they said they wouldnt do it or recemond it because it kills gas mileage and heats up the car faster. has anyone had this done to their car yet? if so how much power do you get, and do you feel it? is it even worth gettin done? thanks
