G35 Air Filter

I was changing the air filter on my '04 G35 Sedan, and i noticed that there is a second compartment. One piece is broken on the secondary compartment (one of the locking clips), Indicating that one of the mechanics had opended that compartment. What bothers me is that the compartment has a drawer shape to it. Do I put something in there?

Is there some kind of second filter, what's that second compartment for?

Highlighted in red is the second compartment

By the way, what air filters do you guys use?

You might think it's funny but as soon as I got my car I took this out and installed a JWT pop charger. I didn't really pay attention to it, but I don't remember seeing the second compartment on mine (I could be wrong). I don't think there would be a second filter for the air box though. Why not get an aftermarket one such as Stillen or JWT?

It is part of the resonator....helps to quiet intake noise...no second filter needed.
