My Spacer Has Issues!
My Spacer Has Issues!
Okay so here it goes, last night i installed the motordyne 5/16 Copper Iso Thermal Spacer and it felt GREAT the increase was awesome! BUT on my way to work today i felt a slight difference and it didn't feel as powerful as last night but i didn't think too much of it, but on my way back home it felt a lot slower if anything it felt like i lost HP. As soon as i got home i popped the hood and listened to my engine on idle and there was a massive amount of air flowing out from around the engine, can't pin point exactly where this air was coming out from. So i turned off my engine and turned it back on but this time the "service engine soon" light came on and when i pressed the accelerator 2 or 3 times my rpm would only hit in between the 1st and 2nd. Then i decided to call a friend of mine and he told me i should reset the ECU and so i did, it seems like it fixed the problem b/c when i was on idle i tried hitting the pedal again and it was back to the way it should feel so i took it on a test drive and it felt great! BUT the "service engine soon" light is still on..... What should i do? My car feels like the way it should but could there be other problems going bc the light is STILL on?
remove and retorque the plenum bolts per MD instructions. Did you initially use a torque wrench and torque down at 40, 80, and 100 inch-lbs in the order as shown in the instructions?
Also, check to make sure all the black hoses are connected.

Careful with the torque wrench. I had a bad experience with the inch pounds Craftsman dial wrench. YOu have to read the booklet carefully and understand it fully. I mean it doesnt take a rocket scientist to know... JUST READ THE OPERATING INSTRUCTION BOOKLET! Also, bfore you re-torque your blts, remove them and aplply a VERY small amount thread lock on it. Use the thread lock for small bolts ( i believe its blue ). This, after re-torque, will more than likely solve the problem and keep you away from any further ones.... Good luck!

You can also use a nut driver as per the instructions.
But its very unusual to have a sucessfull install and then have a problem some time later.
If there is a leak, have you been able to isolate it?
Most of the time its something simple like the rubber oil fill ring getting caught between the plenum and spacer during install. Or a hose not being plugged back in.
Try to find the leak. Its usually something very easy to fix.

thanks for all the advice guys i'll let you know how things turn out tomorrow....BTW if the problem is fixed should the "service engine soon" light turn off automatically or do i have to take it to the dealership and get them to manually reset it?

That's strange. I reset my ECU as per instructions. Performace wasn't great for the first couple of passes, then everything settled in properly. Can anyone else shed some light?
