because the 5/16 gives power throughout the RPM range

There right about the power gains in the 5/16 spacer. I installed altered atmosphere's angled spacer. You can hear the different cause all 6 cyl's are getting equal air. All the intake will do is direct the air to the throttle body, and thats maybe a 1 HP gain.

Which to buy first....?

There's only one spacer I'd consider since I know it works and comes with
everything needed to install....MotorDyne. Both the intake and the spacer
compliment each other since you're getting more air into the plenum. I have
both and wouldn't change a thing, this combo along with a cat-back free
flow exhaust make HP!

so what if i don't need to cover the stock engine cover? I see more people getting the 5/16 over 1/2. I don't really mind if i have the stock engine cover off. Which would be a better choice? I have a 5 AT btw. sorry for all the questions

Well i took off my cover when i did my spacer. I painted the top part of the plenum black. I too have a cold air intake as well. It helps a lot as a combo

Either size will do.. its either the normal HP gain with the cover with the 5/16 or the normal HP gain +1 and no cover with the 1/2" ... in any case you'll feel and hear the extra kick in your G....

I have the 1/2" and i did not have to remove my cover, it actually fit right in. Is there something wrong with my car/engine/spacer? BTW i ordered it directly from Tony @ Motordyne so i know its not a fake or bad quality. I have pics if you guys would like to see....

If you're on a tight budget forget about the spacer,$240,for now. Advance the timing 2 degrees,$75. Performance wise it's close to/the same as the 5/16 spacer. The program used to advance the timing makes a difference as well. The shop where I had mine done used Cipher.
I have the Stillen ztube and it is a worthy mod to consider. Improves gas mileage. Any aftermarket tube is better than the stock tube.
When you eventually buy a spacer, get an iso-thermal one. You'll probably have issues with heat soak, considering where you live. As for replacing the engine cover,if you have a 1/2" spacer AND a strut bar you can't replace the cover.
Hope this helps your decision,cheers!!!
