Re: gas milege

Ah, Pflugerville. My grandmother is a Pfluger. Been to many reunions there.

My highway mileage seems to be anywhere between 24 and 28.. 24 or a little less at 85mph or so, and the one time I got 28 was when I was in a caravan forced to travel 55-60. Speed does make a difference.

My in-town driving can vary from 14 to 16 depending on whether I'm just transporting myself from place to place, or driving spiritedly.

Re: gas milege

I drove between legal limits of 60-75 to sppeding 80+
on my trip to Pflugerville and back. 290 was really crowded
last Friday! For those speeds, 23.7 is pretty good. Ipersonally don't know how anyone can drive a G35 at 55mph for
an extended period of time. I start going crazy at that speed.

Hey marvinclt,
Don't get too excited. Gas indicator is not linear, so last 1/4 is equivalent to about 7-8 galons.
Your average is closer to 22-24.
Also, if you have 18 inch tires - your odometer shows 3-5% less distance (mine tested 4.5%) (watch your speed!)

Jerry

Re: gas milege

Thanks Jerry, After I posted, I figured i had to be wrong, but i thought oh well. I didn't know about the distance issue with 18". I guess that could be a good thing if I wanted to resell my car ;-)

Re: gas milege

Members forget that EPA highway mileage test was developed in 1985 and the requirements are an average speed of 56 mph and no absolute no excursions beyond 61 mph even to pass!

If you go 80 mph vs 56 you will use 81/56=44% more fuel......every extra rpm must be fed.
