help with e-manage ultimate

Anyone can help with e-manage ultimate wiring and installation for a vq35de engine?

I have the harness , got it 2nd hand apparently all spliced and diodes and injector module, etc in.

We put it on the car and started it. Error pop up - ignition input error 3,4,5 appeared.

Car vibrating and could smell unburnt petrol. Shut down and checked wires . Found out some wires were wrong. Re-wired and double / triple check only the ignition and injectors in/out wires. Did not check the diodes ( cause heat shrunk already ) and also not sure how to check what diodes also..

Opened the e-manage to ensure the ignition module is inserted onto the mother board . Jumpers settings -

JP 1 - 6 all open

JP7 - ignition input - 1-2 normal

jp8 ignition output 2-3 - 12v

JP 9 airflow signal - normal

JP 10 - open

Jp 11-12 - normal

JP 13 - 14 knock input 1/2 - pull up

Jp 15 - rpm - open

Jp 16 17 - karman

Jp 18 injector in/out ch 1-6 IN/OUT

JP 19 -20 I/J,sub I/J , NVCS, Relay

ensure the engine and cylinders were setup for the e-manage software.

plug into car again same thing ignition input errors but now ignition inout errors 3,4,5,6 appeared. car was again not firing properly.

Do you think it is a wire problem? Setting up e-manage? - diodes ? cause i heard diodes are 1 way so if wired wrong way? problems?

but error flagged out is ignition inout error and the diodes are on the output not input..

really do not understand why it wont work..

going to trouble shoot again tomorrow.

Please give some advice... thanks

You should try posting this in the FI section here or my350Z. You are boosted right?

Hi -

The diodes are 1 way - installed only on output, to prevent over voltage on the coils to prevent burn out. The diodes provide for a .7V drop to the coils, from the eManage higher level voltage, so they are again in factory operating range.

If you are getting popping, you definitely have what sounds like and easy misfire issue, or maybe a coil wire in wrong. Have you done any other mods at the same time as the eManage, such as ignition? Did you swap spark plugs, or anything at the same time?

I know that coil 4 and 6 can get mixed up pretty easily based on their length, as 6 actually lines up with 4 and 4 with 6, so if anything like this is in play, check those out.

If you disconnect the eManage - and run on the factory ECU, is all OK, still? Does the car run rough or have ANY issues without it?

Also, on your wiring changes that seem to have made it worse with increased codes, make sure you haven't mixed the wires around and messed up the firing order to the coils....that could be it as well. Firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6, and bank 1 cylinder 1, is on the passenger side of the car - left side of engine if your standing in front of it.

Maybe I missed something along the way...but why are you running an E-manage if you are not boosted? Also I have read that the E-manage is not that good of a piggy back anyways.

well.. if i can gain 5% more * i hope * .... why not try.. anyways it is like the costs of 2 HFCs.

and i do not have access to those flash ECU type of service here locally.
At least if i do not like it , i can sell it easily here ...

anyways, re-checked evrything , waited 8 hours to calibrate the LC-1 . spend a whole day just ensuring all connections and wires and everything is grounded , connected properly again.

if i went boosted , i think i would have gone with a full stand alone like the haltech or F-Con V.

Well.. works like a champ now.

thanks for the help.

Good to know it's all good now...was there anything that changed in the end - other than a ground or something like that?

swap of 2 wires on the ignition input and swap 2 wires on the injector output side.

Also had to amend the settings cause the injectors were set at 300+ to 500+ . This caused hesitation at about 3-4000rpm. but we had set it to zero initially but somehow i think we forgot to save so when we plug in , it reset back to your setting.

we also re-did some wires with the male female plugs cause the solder made it brittle and some actually come out.

Cool...glad it's all good for you. It's possible that the bad connections may have come loose from the packing...it was all pretty well jammed in there together.

Good luck and thanks again!
