Re: Fumoto Valve

I saw that autozone one just a couple of days ago... def not the fumoto. I don't know if it is good, but when dealing with oil leaks, the extra ~$13 is worth it for the quality and reputation that fumoto brings. In my opinion at least..

Re: Fumoto Valve

I feel better now. I agree, it usually worth it to spend a little more for quality. Better value in the long run to have something that works properly.

Oil's the lifeblood of your engine. I read last year that the Fram has a few reports of leaking.

So, the consensus then so far is that the thing to use with the Fumoto is the fiber washer rather than the crush? At what torque?

Re: Fumoto Valve

I have never used a torque wrench in my life... I simply tightened it to "what felt comfortable to me".... been on for about a year and 22K miles...no problems.

Re: Fumoto Valve

Hold on. Doesn't the dealership have to do the oil changes in order to reset the warning thing. Or is the warning thing only a sensor so if I were to refill it myself it would go off. I'm asking this cause i'm about to add cats, exhaust and intake to my car and want to try to avoid the dealership as much as possible.

Re: Fumoto Valve

What "warning thing" are you referring to? This car doesn't have a maintanence indicator, unless you have the Nav system.. and that one you can reset yourself.

Re: Fumoto Valve

Ordered my F-103 Fumoto valve last night. I did a search on the forums for a discount code, but alas the deadline was the end of '03. So I missed it. The valve came highly recommended and I have a friend with a WRX who has had it on his car for about 2 years now and going strong.

BTW, where can I get a filter wrench for the OEM nissan filter? I've also heard from another friend that it's just cheaper to get a FRAM filter since quality is about the same and cost is like 1/3 of the OEM filter from the dealership. Any comments?

Re: Fumoto Valve

Don't get the Fram filter. I highly doubt that it's as good as an OEM filter. You can probably find opinions on different brand filters from bobistheoilguy.com.

Re: Fumoto Valve

i used a filter wrench from autozone. Our filters are tiny so keep that in mind when picking out a size range.

I also got Mobil1 M110 or whatever, but I've heard mixed things about Mobil1 filters. Ah well, even if it's not the best, it's sure as hell not bad.

Grubbs charges $6 for the oem filter.

Too bad they charge up the *** in shipping. Next time I need to order some stuff from them, I'll order like 5 filters.

Re: Fumoto Valve

Just installed my Fumoto valve yesterday. I fabricated a snug fitting cover for the nipple using a 6V latern terminal cover by heating and reshaping it. Also made a 'safety' for the valve by cutting a rubber washer to fit around the valve with a part that fits in the slot. I did this just 'cause I'm paranoid, though I don't think this thing would ever open up by itself.

Here's a pic of the 'safety washer/insert'.

Re: Fumoto Valve

BTW, I was worried that the extra length of the valve with the nipple would make it a risk of hitting road debris, but installed, it's at least an inch above the level of the aero pan under the engine, well out of harm's way.
