I have an Audi A4 that I can drive if I want to. It's been a while since I have driven a car with an automatic transmission. I get in the loaner and try to mash the clutch to start the thing.I noticed the speedo in this G35x is all over the place according to my 9500i GPS readout. My G35 and A4 are both dead on to the GPS.

YIKES, like I said, it is 50+ miles one way. I will be pretty mad if I get halfway and completely toast the engine.
edit - P.S. This dealer said they have not yet had to change a single engine because of oil consumption. WISH ME LUCK!

The issue is how much it consumes, not that it consumed more than you thought it would before you chacked and jacked something up
If you are under warranty you have roadside assistance. They will pick you up, tow the car to the dealer and give you a loaner

Update
I called my dealer back this afternoon, they said the new engine arrived today, but they were not able to start the install yet because a some gaskets were not included. I did not ask which gaskets.. My guess it is probably either intake or exhaust manifolds (or both). I guess it could be oil pan if that comes uninstalled.
They have ordered the gaskets and expect them to be there Monday at which point they will start the swap.
I am very pleased with how quickly things are moving along!

Do you mean it was 1/4 of the way down on the hatched area, or 1 quart of oil low? (I saw your original post before you edited.. haha)
If it was one quart low at 2,000 miles it is still only half of what Nissan is calling "OK". (which I, and many others, consider excessive)

I was reading about the headlamp recall just now, which only covers 2006-2007 and I confused them.
They will probably start you on the "consumption test" if you inform them that you noticed the oil level drop.
update
Infiniti called this afternoon and said my engine replacement will be completed tomorrow.
If it is in fact finished tomorrow my swap will have been completed in seven business days, drop-off to pick-up.
It progressed much faster than I expected, but I am ready to get out of this boring loaner and back into my car.

Without all the previous history that's all that can be said.

I picked my car up this afternoon. It appears to be as good as new. (Upon second thought, I hope it is better than new considering when it was new it had a defective engine)
Talking to the service manager, he said he reads some of these forums, so Chad, if you're reading this, thanks a lot!

Yeah thats good to know that you are smart and did all of this dradef as anyone on the board would. I worked at Nissan and we replaced 2.5l motors at least 2 a week in the Altimas same thing oil consumption. The issue with the 2.5 was they messed up on the valve timing, so when the valves were both open at the sametime it lasted longer than a brief second and allowed pieces of the header in on the exhaust stroke I know sounds weird but thats what happened so we were replacing those all day. Then in 05 they had issues with the rings, wrong type or something they werent to detailed and we would replace those as well!
